It can't be the early 2010s if the fear for "21/12/12" isn't present . Sorry guys, loads of people tend to forget but it did truly shape the culture of back then. Once that was gone, it just felt like we had to move to something else. 2013 didn't feel transitional out of the blue. The Harlem Shake for instance really predicted this whole era dominated by memes and internet challenges. To me early 2013 was a bit more early 2010s, but overall 2013 as a whole was more mid-2010s to me.

2013 definitely felt more mid 2010s. Most people had smartphones at that point, selfies were a new and popular trend, the Harlem Shake song was the first meme song to hit #1 on Billboard, Lorde changed the pop scene with her anti-pop sentiment and moody tunes, and Vine set the precedent for meme videos and modern comedy sketches (emphasis on the comedy part, of course) on social media.

Late 2013 being lumped with the mid 2010s makes sense but early 2013 doesn’t because a lot of early 2010s things were still relevant in that time.

Mostly mid, maybe the early part of 2013 had a little bit of early 2010s vibe

If I had to choose which it leaned more towards than I would aay early 2010s but it was so completely different from both eras and a unique era on its own. 2013 definitely is not like the mid 2010s though. That's why I'm surprised so many people voted for mid 2010s.

In my opinion at least. modified early 10s, like how I see 2016 and 2019 as modified mid 10s and late 10s. Unique vibe on their own.

it’s hard to say. it’s a good mix of both. i think of 2013 as being early and mid culturally at the same time
early 10s things in 2013: - skeuomorphic design for most the year - electro pop still being popular - before sjw/alt right culture came apparent and politics were not yet that divided - early 10s fashion trends dominant with even some very slight late 00s hangovers that were irrelevant mostly but still - 7th gen gaming until the end of the year - artists like ke$ha, katy perry, and one direction are popular
mid 10s things about 2013: - obama’s second term - vine was out, and instagram and snapchat were popular - streaming culture starts to make a dent and netflix has original shows - flat design becomes popular by the end of the year - Apple starts releasing 2 phones starting this year and the first iphone with touch id comes out - 8th gen gaming consoles like Xbox One and PS4 come out - mid 10s artist like Ariana Grande, Migos and 5th harmony start to come out and trap starts to really become the dominant sound in hip hop

I wouldn't say that makes it mid 10s tho. Early 10s trap and Mid 10s trap are different, it just happened to take over hip hop part way through it's Early 10s part.
