All these atmosphere threads, while great, always seem to focus on kids, specifically high school kids. Why is there never a look at adults? Or primary school kids? I bet we’d learn a lot more from that than a myopic look at teenagers. I do like the idea of us creating atmosphere threads not specifically focused on teens, but with primary/elementary-school aged kids, I think that would be a bit problematic. Posting pictures of kids would be a grey idea and not something I would suggest us doing. It would be different if we were adding pictures of ourselves to atmosphere threads focusing on elementary/primary kids from a certain era though.

I have some just-came-back-from-prison pictures of me from November 2001 without my baby teeth.

But I see no reason why we couldn't show adult culture. After all, Boomers dominated TV in the '90s (such as Frasier, et al), there's no reason not to focus on, for example, Gen Xers in the '00s, whose music was typified by the likes of John Mayer and Darude.

Yeah, I’ve always been more sketchy about posting pictures of random kids into my atmosphere threads. For some reason it makes me feel like a creep lol. Also, most kids aren’t really paying attention to pop culture as much as teens and young adults, so I don’t see any point in adding them. I get most of my photos from social media, which is also very dominated by teens and especially teenaged girls. It’s difficult to find photos of guys that I could add to my threads. I’ll try to keep it more balanced next time.

didn't make it past the boat episode of Yugioh, like he snuck on a boat or something That was like episode 2. Tbf, the show is awful. The card game was super addictive though, I must have dumped $1000+ on cards. lol

I dont think there was a shift, more like a transition, May 2001 was when we got out of the Y2K era when Y2K culture stopped dominating despite still being a little relevant, as Early 2000s culture took over. July/August was a gray area, Early 2000s stuff was there, just not solidified until Early September. But I'd say it did have a tiny shift in 9/11.

I actually think this particular atmosphere thread has more “adult” looking people than many do. I definitely get focusing on trends, because then otherwise they’d look the same for several years, but I do appreciate a little variety in ages as well. I wouldn’t mind a little kid picture, maybe members here would be willing to provide them.

I think a good alternative could possibly be to create threads based on members sharing photos from a particular year. For instance, you could have a "Post your 2004 pics" thread and people could share a photo of themselves from that year if they wish to. Even though the threads would pretty much be similar to the existing "Childhood Photos" topic in the Say Cheese...! board, you'd at least be able to observe trends from a certain year and it would provide an insight into what kids culture was like at the time. I'm sure we've all got photos which are a product of their times. I've got heaps of photos from the Early 2000s of me wearing a bucket hat.

I'll see if I can track down some of my stuff.

Yeah I think a thread of pictures that are okay to use would be a good idea. Specifically ones where you're sure of the date. Maybe a range of years though? I've got a bucket hat pic or two to share as well

I've got a bucket hat pic or two to share as well I'm not sure, i'm sort of caught between two minds if it would better to base the threads on individual years or of the cultural eras. Say if there was a "Post your Early 2010s pics" thread, would it seem too broad? I mean, you'd potentially have pictures from the year 2010 mixed in with ones from 2013. I think I lean more towards us creating them based on individual years, tbh. It's up to what everyone thinks would work best of course. What I might do is create a thread about this idea in the Polls sub-forum, just so that we can get a feeler for how many people would be interested in seeing these threads created and who would be willing to share their own photos.
