I'm sorry, but I can't stand electro swing. It's not that I hate the sound of it necessarily, it's fine, I guess. My problem with it is the fact that it's supposed to be a throwback to 1920s and '30s swing jazz.
Normally, I don't care if a genre of music is nostalgic in that way, and in fact I often give music a lot more leeway in that regard than, say, movies that try to evoke earlier eras like the '80s or '90s. But the problem is electro swing sounds virtually nothing like the genre it purports to emulate, not even a bit. I do listen to bands like Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and the like - I mean, these are actual famous swing jazz bands, the things people would've been listening to in these eras and even a little later - this is the sound of swing jazz.
But then you take any old electro swing song and see how it compares:
My problem with it isn't necessarily that it sounds different from swing jazz, but rather that electro swing is a genre that purports to play tribute to swing jazz but actually sounds nearly nothing like it. What bothers me is it sounds like a tribute to swing jazz by someone who has never actually heard a swing jazz song. As a result, it's almost as if they're making music that sounds like what someone who has no familiarity with the source material might think it sounds like, based on some cartoonish clichés and misconceptions about the era.
It's like they figure nobody else has listened to it so nobody will know the difference, right? It comes off as sleazy and cheap.
Sorry, rant over. Thanks for listening.

I didn't like that playlist personally. There are better electro-jazz songs.
I don't think most people mind if it sounds different from the 1920s-1940s stuff. They just want music they can dance to.

Good lord, that "Welcome Back 20's" video was pure cringe. It's telling when the 1940's can put out better music than we can.

I'm not sure if these would count as electro-swing, but they are my favourite electronic jazz songs of the 2010s (they are in French)

Electro swing is defined as swing samples drenched in modern EDM techniques. Obviously it would sound very different to original swing music, especially if they apply the samples to a lazy 4x4 house beat. I'm not a huge expert in the genre so I can't point to songs I like a lot, but from most EDM fans I've talked to I've heard that it's apparently not a genre worth your time. If you're interested in modern swing, there was a whole swing revival movement in the 90s that stayed mostly true to the original genre while also applying some more modern influences like rockabilly and ska. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swing_revival
