Victoria has recorded 429 new cases and another thirteen deaths. Our national death toll has now reached 221. Now that Melbourne's gone into 'Stage 4' lockdown, most non-essential businesses will have to close for at least the next six weeks. In retail, the only places that will be allowed to stay open are news agencies, post offices, chemists, banks, petrol stations, bottle shops and supermarkets/grocery stores. The places that will have to close include hairdressers, car sales, footwear/clothing stores, food courts, department stores and electrical retailers.

Now, it will be interesting to see if the lockdown has any major effect or whether it’s too little too late. Could be heading for a ‘stage 5’ otherwise. NSW should be thinking about similar. Also, extremely happy that our Premier has decided to keep our borders firmly shut until at least August 31st. Hopefully WA are able to keep theirs shut also.

The panic-buying has started again! I really wish people would have some common sense. The supermarkets aren't closing so there's no need to be stockpiling. Personally, I think all non-essential businesses should have been shut down months ago, because keeping them open is giving people an excuse to leave the house when they should be staying at home. We've had another 439 new cases today and 11 deaths. A Melbourne police officer is in hospital after being attacked by a woman refusing to wear a face mask. Another thing I've heard is that our Defense Force have conducted more than 3000 doorknocks of people who should be isolating at home and, in more than 800 of those homes, the person who should have been isolating wasn't there. Why can't people just do as they've been asked and stay at home?!

God help Victoria (and the country as a whole I guess) if this lockdown doesn’t work. Sections of the media don’t help matters in regards to the panic-buying though. Some are basically encouraging people to stockpile and have been doing so since the pandemic began. It’s unbelievable to hear there’s still so many Victorians not adhering to these restrictions. I’m not sure what it will take to get the message through to these selfish dickheads. Just think, if they did as they were told to begin you guys might not be in this position you find yourselves in. This is so fricking frustrating to say the least.

Exactly! If we all just do as we've been told, things might start looking a bit better. Put a mask on when you're outdoors! It's not too much to ask! From tomorrow night, all non-essential businesses will have to close for at least the next six weeks. That includes hairdressers, food courts, department stores, car sales, electrical retailers and footwear/clothing stores. Personally, I think these businesses should have closed down earlier. Keeping them open just encourages people to go out when they should be staying at home. The only businesses that can stay open are supermarkets/butchers/grocery stores, banks, chemists, petrol stations, news agencies, bottle shops and post offices. Over the past 24 hours, Victoria recorded another 15 deaths (10 of which are linked to aged care facilities) and 725 new cases.
