Every state and territory in Australia now has at least one case of coronavirus.
Meanwhile....

And now the personal. My hometown of Hamilton, Ontario got its first case today. It was a cancer doctor who had just arrived from the US. She talked to and handled patients all day yesterday. My aunt went to that same cancer hospital yesterday. Thankfully she had a different doctor and was in a different wing of the hospital. She's one of the people I'm scared for most, since she is 65 and is a multiple times cancer survivor, so she's not in the best of health. This s**t is getting scary. I hope you and your aunty will be okay. I had a bit of a scare myself; two of the people in my Tafe class last night were sick with flu-like symptoms. One of them works in south-west Sydney (but lives down here) and when he went to the doctors to see what was wrong with him, his doctor wasn't able to determine what it was. My Mum has also suddenly come down with flu-like symptoms after only having just got over a cold a couple of weeks ago. There haven't been any confirmed cases as of yet in the Wollongong area, but we're only an hour south of Sydney and it's still a huge worry.

So how's y'all doing in North America and Australia lately? We don't hear much news about y'all surprisingly. Here in Europe each country is slowly moving towards total quarantine, times are hard

To be honest, I am expecting all schools in Australia to close very soon. I’ll predict mid next week.
Never thought that it would reach this stage.

Here in Europe each country is slowly moving towards total quarantine, times are hard Our Prime Minister announced this afternoon that government leaders have been advised to cancel all public gatherings with crowds above 500. The Australian Grand Prix has already been cancelled and Robbie Williams canceled his upcoming Melbourne show just an hour or two ago. This isn't affecting schools or shopping centres, at least not at this stage. 199 people have now been diagnosed with the coronavirus in Australia.

199 people have now been diagnosed with the coronavirus in Australia. NZ currently only has 5 cases (all from overseas). I wish the Govt would actually act in advance for once and ban overseas travel and we might be able to continue on without any outbreak. But seeing how things are going overseas now its only a matter of time before a ton of sick people arrive in the country.

As you'd expect, basically all major events of significance for March & April have been cancelled throughout the day. NRL Round 2 is expected to be played in empty stadiums, but I'm not really sure why it isn't effective immediately. This isn't affecting schools or shopping centres, at least not at this stage. Surely it won't be overly long before Australian schools and universities are closed/delivering lessons online? As for shopping centres, well it's probably only a matter of time before them and perhaps even all non-essential stores (such as chemists & supermarkets) are closed.

Scotty said just as much, he wants to watch his footy team play live one last time and attend his cult over the weekend before the bans begin Monday. Yup, great reasoning and response from Smuggo as per usual!

My wife may have been exposed so now I have to self-quarantine. I’m not all that worried about us, we’re fairly healthy young adults, and our daughter should be okay because apparently a milder form is manifesting in young kids. However, I need to be away from work for TWO WEEKS. Immigration is a fast-paced area and there are people counting on me, so to that end I am anxious.

I wish the Govt would actually act in advance for once and ban overseas travel and we might be able to continue on without any outbreak. But seeing how things are going overseas now its only a matter of time before a ton of sick people arrive in the country. Yeah, New Zealand is one of the few countries in the world that actually stands a chance of containing it. It completely makes sense to ban overseas travel. Unfortunately though, I think money will get in the way of putting people's health first; closing off the 'borders' would be pretty bad for NZ's economy. I'm not sure if the government would want to risk possibly causing more job losses. Even over here in Australia, despite us now having more than 200 cases, we have only banned travel to/from South Korea, Italy, China and Iran. For once, Trump actually did something right by banning all travel to/from Europe, excluding the UK and Ireland. I wish we would do that too. Surely it won't be overly long before Australian schools and universities are closed/delivering lessons online? As for shopping centres, well it's probably only a matter of time before them and perhaps even all non-essential stores (such as chemists & supermarkets) are closed. I agree, it's only a matter of weeks IMO. It really does surprise me though that schools in particular haven't already been closed. Kids under the age of 10 have higher mortality rates than other demographics (besides the elderly) and many schools have well in excess of 500+ students, so I honestly don't see the logic in keeping them open when they are at a much greater risk of becoming infected. Scotty said just as much, he wants to watch his footy team play live one last time and attend his cult over the weekend before the bans begin Monday. Yup, great reasoning and response from Smuggo as per usual! I agree and I say that as a Sharks supporter too. Speaking of ScoMo, i'm not sure if you happened to see it or not, but his address to the nation at 7pm last night was pathetic. He basically only discussed the economic stimulus package which had been announced earlier in the day and didn't make any mention of how Australia is going to handle the coronavirus going forward. I can't stand him. My wife may have been exposed so now I have to self-quarantine. It's a shame that there's no way for the two of you to protect your daughter from potentially getting exposed, but I mean, what can you do. A lot of families will be in the exact same predicament. I hope you, your wife and your daughter will be okay.

Thanks, like I said we’re both generally healthy folks and coronavirus is apparently less bad in kids so I’m not worried about that. But I agree with commentators saying this is going to grind the economy to a screeching halt.

I can't stand him. ...and to think the doors are still wide open to/from the US even though quite a significant amount of the cases are coming from over there. Hmmm.... NZ has the right ideas (yet again). I wouldn't be at all surprised if all schools aren't closed before the end of next week, with everything else in the coming weeks. Really quite amazed to actually see how things have escalated in just a short period of time. No I didn't but I caught pieces of it elsewhere later on. All that really did was once again put on full display the lack of proper leadership from this lot. Absolutely no substance and all about him and his colleagues. I don't normally wish ill, but sucked in to Peter Dutton. Couldn't have happened to a nicer person!
