Since I'm among the few posters that can actually recall 1995, it is worth looking back on, but I don't have much to add since John Titor hit most of the big points. Pogs and Power Rangers were huge. Video stores, CD's, and cable TV were all pretty much at their peak. Most kids hadn't heard of the Web yet even by late 1995, at least I hadn't. The Sign by Ace of Base was played everywhere. Amazing that it's already 25 years ago. I still don't understand the appeal of pogs.

Ps1 had like no hype in 95, and Sega Saturn dropped out of nowhere, Sega Saturn I must say did feel futuristic as hell playing Daytona but not many people were talking about it. Once we hit like late 96 and n64 came out you started seeing heavy hitter games like Crash and Tomb Raider come out to fight against it (and won) lol I am glad I never spent 400 dollars to cop a Sega Saturn, waited patiently for n64 and ps1 (once Tomb Raider came out) Really, kinda surprised since the ps1 made sega panicked in releasing the saturn on mid 95, but then again it was the era of electronic companies getting into the gaming industry i.e the Panasonic 3d0 and Philips cdi. A lot of people who were around back then did call the ps1 a failure due to Sony having no video-game experience other then the failed project with Nintendo. It's just crazy how the ps1 gone from being ignored to being one of the best-selling game consoles of all time. Yeah it was hardly talked about like no cared in 95, we still had DKC 2 for SNEs and Super Mario World 2 dropping so it kind of held people over, Saturn launched with crap games and so did ps1, was not until n64's release date loomed and Sony kicked it up a notch and released Crash Bandicoot, Tekken 2, Tomb Raider ( Tomb Raider had HEAVY advertisements on tv and billboards) that ps1 was seen as a major player. Flash forward to 97 when Final Fantasy 7 came out and Nintendo was on its knees pretty much, not to say N64 had bad games it had some cool heaters, Goldeneye and StarFox 64 but it was no match for the Sony PR machine. It wasn't so much 7 the game but the commericals on tv and billboards on trains, buses, planes, Pepsi cans etc, it solidified Ps1 as "the system"

The saturn while being under the radar in the states had virtual fighter which had hype in the arcades so I guess the Saturn was more hype than the ps1 in 95.

Saturn just didn't have any good games yet besides Virtual Fighter. If anything ps1 had more hype then Saturn in 95. 96: Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Tekken 2, Crash Bandicoot, Wipeout, Twisted Metal 2, they should have just waited until n64 came out to release the system, I see why they did tho to get a head start.

N64 had a huge drought when it came out too. Other than Super Mario 64 and Wave Race 64, there were no other games for it for months.

1995 is fairly old in my mind. It's a whopping 10 years before YouTube even existed, and even in 2005 YouTube was so different to its current state it's almost from an alien dimension. In 1995 the CGI was still blocky or rubbery looking and now it has almost conquered the entire uncanny valley. In 1995 CDs were still on the rise and cassettes were on the decline, the music market has since the CD peak a few years after 1995 shifted twice.
It really doesn't surprise how long ago 1995 was since the world has changed pretty dramatically since.

Remember that VHS tape they sent out in summer 96 that had Mario on it, I was so hyped for Nintendo 64 like it was HYPED AF, and then we got 1 or 2 games every 5 months LMAO Very much true, Ps1 kept putting out hit after hit and destroyed n64

Cellphones were still pretty expensive and beepers were the thing, vhs were at it's peak in popularity, and wrestling was still pre attitude/Monday night wars era.
