I only had five channels to choose from back in 2005; WIN, Prime, SC10, ABC & SBS. I don't miss those days. Going over to my Dad's and being able to watch Austar (cable-TV) always felt so good.

Same here man. In 2005, It was either 6 channels of regular OTA tv or the same ol DVDs and VHS tapes at my mom’s. Thankfully my dad had cable at his place...Until March 2006...and I wouldn’t see cable again at either place until January 2008. At least I was an early adopter of YouTube (discovered it in November 2005) and Netflix streaming in 2007 (back when you had to watch it on a computer and all they had were B-movies and indie films.) It was better than nothing I guess...

I like my dad for being a techy that's usually ahead of things. We had satellite TV (Dish TV) in our house by 1998 and digital cable in 2003.

Going over to my Dad's and being able to watch Austar (cable-TV) always felt so good. why only 5? Does that country only give u a few? This was back in the days when most people only had access to the free-to-air networks on analogue-TV (CR-TV). Digital TV was around, however Plasma TVs were still way too expensive for the vast majority of families to afford back in the Mid 2000s; most went for well over $3,000. The only other alternative was cable-TV, but it too was also too expensive for many people to outlay money for each month. To get the basic package, it was something like $35 a month. That's $35 many simply didn't have on the side. Same here man. In 2005, It was either 6 channels of regular OTA tv or the same ol DVDs and VHS tapes at my mom’s. Thankfully my dad had cable at his place...Until March 2006...and I wouldn’t see cable again at either place until January 2008. It was better than nothing I guess... You were lucky! Netflix was never available here; it was only introduced to Australia as recently as 2015 (though I think there were people out there who used VPNs to use the US version before then). Growing up as an only child in a single-parent household, I really had to find ways to keep myself entertained when there was absolutely nothing worth watching on TV. So much has changed really when you compare the Mid 2000s to the present day.

Here’s an example from a July 2005 weekend afternoon when you didn’t have cable...um yeah...
