I went on to listen to plenty of hits from 2016 and wow, most of them sound so different from today's music. I couldn't imagine songs like Cheap Thrills, This Is What You Came For, and Cake By The Ocean being hits today. Does anyone else feel that way?

Tons of 2016 stuff I can't find an equivalence for today. Mainly indie songs. Twenty One Pilots, Mumford & Sons, "In Your Arms" by Chef'Special, "Say You Won't Let Go" by James Arthur etc.

Yeah, before, we had EDM acts like Chainsmokers, DJ Snake, SeeB, Calvin Harris, and Zedd dominating the charts which made 2016 have a colorful vibe to it, and sadly, that vibe just died out. We also had some rock from 21 pilots, Billie Eilish and Khalid were still unknown to the public, as you had Daya, Alessia Cara, Rihanna, Shawn Mendes, Meghan Trainor, and more artists popping.

2016 was definitely a transitional year for pop music. Tropical house, synthpop and EDM were still the most popular music genres until the reggaeton and trap waves dominated in the following year.

2016 was so unbelievably bad that any year ought to be very different from it
