Last night I decided to watch Channel V's "Top 50 Biggest Hits of 2005" music countdown and it was quite interesting as it played a number of songs which I had completely forgot about, such as "La La" by Ashlee Simpson and "Don't Lie" by the Black-Eyed Peas. It was pretty good actually. There were a few stinkers played during the countdown of course (*cough "My Humps", "Welcome to my Life"), but those few songs aside, listening to this countdown really emphasised the extent to which music has changed over the past 15 years. Rock was still huge back in 2005. In fact, all of the songs played between #49 - #41 in the countdown were rock songs.
Anyhow, watching that countdown has gave me the idea to create a thread where we can share/talk about things that were released in 2005. This is basically like a "2005 Appreciation Thread". I've been feeling particularly nostalgic for 2005 lately as Saturday last week was 15 years to the day that I started kindergarten and the fact that 2005 in general is now 15 years ago is something that is still hard to fathom. I've never liked the Mid 2000s as a cultural era, but I was 6 years old in 2005; I would be lying if I said that I didn't have a lot of nostalgia for it.
So please, feel free to talk about anything relating to 2005, whether it be songs you like from that year, your memories of it, just anything that comes to mind!

Just like "Zathura" and "Flushed Away", this is yet another kids movie from the Mid 2000s which receives little to no recognition. I loved this movie as a kid. I had "Hoodwinked" on DVD and it was always something that I enjoyed watching. "Drop it like it's Hot" was at #36 in that countdown special I watched. I remember at the time this was on the charts during early 2005, it was very much overplayed on the radio. It was a pretty big hit. I personally think it's one of the worst songs from 2004/2005, however it's definitely a product of it's time and that in itself makes me nostalgic for it.

I tend to associate 2005 with Nintendo DS commercials as it was the brand new shiny gadget back then, but it wasn't until the DS Lite release that I started to see it everywhere in 2007.
I surprisingly can't find many commercials of that year currently on YouTube, but this one is pretty cool:

You can't have 2005 without hearing B-A-N-A-N-A-S on the radio constantly:

This is from 2006, but it’s pretty much how people thought of the president at the time...

Here’s a few episodes of the Evening News and the Nightly News when Iraq was the #1 priority.
