I realized this video is turning ten (the bros start at 3:20) and it reminded me of the early 10’s cultural phenomena that was “lax bros”. In all fairness this trend lasted further into the decade than I expected it to. In school I used to groan about the bros, but it’s kind of interesting to do a retrospective on it. Preppy as a fashion trend was dying, yet you had the whole hipster irony thing going on, so this group kinda jumped on it as their own breed of “outrageous”. In the early 10’s this became the image of “jock” many places, which embraced less masculine attitudes and appearances than the group was known for in years prior. (The “bro love” aspect was sometimes seen as homoerotic.) At an earlier time, I somehow doubt lax bros would have reached cool kid status, outside maybe the preppiest of circles. Now I’m considering how this may have been a signifier of the changing times. Even if the “douchey” attitude remained, they wear started wearing a lot of pink? What an era.

I remember this trend because I used to read the profiles of random teenagers on Facebook. (Kinda like what I do now with people from pop forums.)

LOL I used to love getting a good creep on some irresistibly awful bros. My fav to creep on were confederate flag people though.
