It's illegal in Canada unless it's voluntary/unpaid, but Trudeau did say he wanted to legalize it so that might not last for long. I’m kinda surprised by this, I thought it would be a reproductive rights issue. It is seen as a child's rights issue. There was a case in Australia I think where a Thai surrogate gave birth to twins, one with Down Syndrome and the other without, and the parents abandoned the one with Down Syndrome but took the healthy one and it caused international uproar.

I love Canada and would love to visit or even live there. You would love Newfoundland; they even speak in Irish-like accent

Interesting. My cynical side wants to believe people would do that whether they birthed the child or not, though I guess I see it being easier to just not claim them.

I think it depends on whether or not the dog is registered as a service animal. Ordinary family pets shouldn't be inside cafes or restaurants but registered service animals, like guide/hearing dogs, are legally allowed to go everywhere with their owners. I've heard plenty of stories regarding café and restaurant owners who've gotten into trouble for refusing to serve someone due to them bringing in a guide/hearing dog.

What has become part of the problem is all the fake service animals. People will buy an official looking vest or whatever and just stick it on their dog that pretty obviously is just a pet. It’s unfortunate because it can cause you to side-eye all of them and question whether they are the real deal or not.

Most dogs are a danger at best and a nuisance at worst besides a few like chihuahuas for instance.
