What's your opinion on this? I've read comments online which have suggested that the coronavirus will "all be behind us" in a months time, however I couldn't disagree more with that. The Sydney Vivid Festival was cancelled just this morning due to the pandemic and it is held in late May/early June, a vaccine for the coronavirus isn't expected to be available until the middle of 2021 at the earliest. Governments are struggling to contain the pandemic as it is. If anything, it's only going to get worse before it gets better. I honestly think the affects of this will be felt for several years, possibly even up to a decade. It will still be a pandemic in 12 months from now, I have no doubt about that.

It will probably take at least 2 years to release a vaccine to the general public. As for all this lockdown stuff I only expect it to last a couple of months at most. There are already many drugs that make the symptoms of coronavirus less aggressive, and testing is improving, so we will have other tools of slowing this down other than legendary levels of social distancing.

I agree about it taking a couple of years for a vaccine to be released, although i'm not sure about the idea of lockdowns lasting only a couple of months. I believe it would make more sense for them to continue to be enforced in some form for the next 12-18 months, even if it was simply for indoor/outdoor events of over 500+ people, until such a vaccine is made available and I tend to think that's what will end up happening. Otherwise, it just increases the risk of a second wave of coronavirus emerging and the number of cases could potentially spike to unprecedented levels if all of the lockdown laws are relaxed so soon. I realise that extending the lockdown laws would be even more detrimental to the economy, however we're not going to return to a degree of normality until the pandemic itself has been contained and a vaccine for the virus itself becomes available. Until then, we've got to work out how to live with the virus as best as we can, there's no other way around it.

The virus will be with us at some level for probably 18 months. The economic depression will likely last 10+ years.

Probably for like at the most a year, I have a strong feeling all of this pandemic will be kinda short in the grand scheme of things. I don’t care how risky having people together again is I would feel by sure in Fall we will kinda be back to normal event and job opening wise.
For sure I hope at least.

I hope it ends soon because I'm tired of being stuck at home and not being able to go anywhere. I think within a month, most schools and workplaces will be reopen and sports leagues will resume, but I wouldn't be surprised if this continues into the summer. 2020 is just a cursed year

As horrible as 9/11 was, at least everything didn't shutdown for months because of it and sports resumed play just a week after the attacks. This whole pandemic going on is cancelling and postponing things far into the future and now it doesn't look like things will get better anytime soon. Even if April-December is somehow better, it won't make up for these awful first 3 months of the year. 2020 is probably the worst year since 1944.

I am willing to bet the ramifications of this are going to be BIGGER then 9/11's on the early/mid 2000s

Things are finally slowing down in Italy, and China has lifted its lockdown on Hubei (though not Wuhan). I don't see this thing lasting into the summer. That's IF countries take social distancing seriously. I heard Trump wants to let everyone out because he thinks it will save the economy (it will in fact do the opposite). I hope he doesn't do that because I really want life to go back to mostly normal before summer.
