The HIV virus and a coronavirus are absolutely not comparable in the slightest. A vaccine is supposed to help your immune system to recognize a virus before it proliferates in your body. It wouldn't work (and probably would never work) with HIV because the virus those same immune cells which are supposed to fight against it. Even if it isn’t “comparable in the slightest”, I have strong doubts that a vaccine will be available as early as next year. I just can’t see it happening, to be honest. The coronavirus belongs to a class of viruses that are not particularly difficult to fight against. Like I said, the vaccine development takes a while because it involves long-run trials that ensure the vaccine is efficient and risk-free, and includes some of the most strict and regulated protocols. But with so much effort, concentrated research and funds focusing on this virus throughout the world, it actually speeds up the process dramatically. It's not too farfetched to assume we might have a vaccine as early as next year. Or in the worst case scenario somewhere in the near future, which is always better than the hopeless case of HIV.

Even with the vaccine, the pandemic would last until all businesses reopen and everyone gets cured. However, the lockdown in the United States is correlated to the election as a way for Democrats to ensure Trump would lose.

The public education system has really failed you.

I wish my state was still locked down because we’re experiencing a resurgence. If we had all done like New Zealand locked down completely for a month, COVID-19 would already be done.

New Zealand definitely set the example for the world to follow right from the beginning, although they have actually reported new cases of community transmission after going through over 100 consecutive days without any cases. It just goes to show that this virus can easily fall through the cracks and be undetectable.

Florida is having an increase in active cases, and Florida's population is way smaller than California. Florida has at least 50 percent more active cases than California, and Florida is not even in lockdown. New York and New Jersey have more deaths than California does. Which state are you in? It is really only one county in California that is causing the high amount of cases, as two thirds of the active cases in California come from that one county, so really. only that one county should be in lockdown.

Florida is severely underreporting its COVID cases, as revealed by its own former medical examiners, who were fired for trying to get the word out. That's why they're not locked down. Also you're wrong about both New York and New Jersey: www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

Florida's population is only two thirds of California's, and Florida has almost double the number of active cases that California has. Texas is also have many cases now, though Florida is having trouble recovering any of the cases. In California, Los Angeles County's active cases make up two thirds of the active cases in the state, and other counties have below 20% of the active cases LA County has, so really I say only LA County should stay in lockdown. Florida is doing the worst out of all the states. Their number of confirmed cases and deaths are near what California has, but the active cases are the real problem as the number of active cases is what puts those alive in danger.

County is the "worst" of California's counties, it doesn't matter. The entire state is meant to stay locked down in order to prevent the spread from infected counties. And as you can see from the chart, it is working: cases per population in California are below not only both New York and New Jersey, but also below the national average. And anyway this is stupid - you don't prevent a disease by letting everyone roam free. That is, like, the opposite of what you should do to prevent a pandemic from spreading to your local area - believe me, Texas, Georgia, and Florida all found that out the hard way. California is on lockdown because lockdown works - it reduces the spread of cases. This is not rocket science. I don't know if your political inclinations just require you to believe this is some massive conspiracy against Trump or something - which is foolish, considering even without the lockdowns, he has done plenty to fuck this up all on his own (nearly half as many American civilians dead as armed forces lost in WWII - WORLD WAR II FOR GOD'S SAKE) - but with hot takes like this, it's no wonder the world looks on us as a laughingstock nowadays.

Florida makes up like more than 25 percent of the active cases in the country. They are already over half a million.

I'm really starting to doubt that a vaccine will be made available during the first-half of next year. It's something that I've always felt somewhat skeptical about, but now that we are nearing the end of October and there have yet to be any new significant developments, it's going to take a miracle for things to suddenly change within the next few months. Still, it's 2020 and this year has proven that literally anything could happen, but I wouldn't count on it.

According to this source: www.google.be/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/science/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker.amp.html11 vaccines are somehow already in grand-scale testing and 6 in (probably very) limited use, so there's still hope for the first half of 2021, so by the second half the pandemic would finally be curved. 2020 is entirely ruined at the point and the second wave is shaping up to be (predicably) much scarier than the first. November-December are gonna be brutal I'm afraid to say.

November-December are gonna be brutal I'm afraid to say. I wouldn't get too optimistic. China and Russia are the only two countries to have fast-tracked the vaccines for approval and they approved the vaccines without waiting for the results of the Phase 3 trials. Their findings are not very reputable. Also, Phase III trials can take many years to complete; the average length of Phase 3 trials is 1 to 4 years: www.clinicaltrialsandme.com/resources/how-long-do-clinical-trials-take.html#:~:text=period%20of%20time.-,How%20Long%20Does%20a%20Phase%203%20Clinical%20Trial%20Take%3F,the%20drug's%20longer%2Dterm%20effects. It's great that 11 vaccines have already reached that stage in development, however we shouldn't assume that most of them will be successful and reach the approval phase. Johnson & Johnson has currently paused all of its trial vaccines after a volunteer developed an unexplained illness and the Oxford University trials were also temporarily paused just over a month ago.
