I would say coronavirus has immediately flipped the switch from '10s to '20s almost instantly. I'd say this is as big if not a bigger event than 9/11. At least 9/11 didn't bring the world to a stop. 2019 was a pretty decent endcap on the decade culturally. I cant believe I am saying this but as someone who was in 8th grade witnessing 9/11 live, this has to be the closest thing in terms of impact. Where 9/11 was a single event that rippled in the 2000s with aftermath, this event is every day and long and drawn out, so its effects might even be worse. I cannot say 9/11 was worse than the coronavirus pandemic. Yes, I have only a small amount of memories of life before 9/11, but coronavirus is worse. 9/11 only killed people on the northern side of the East Coast along with people dying during the following war. It did cause a recession along with a war declared, but flights resumed the following night in addition to schools resuming the following day. The coronavirus on the other hand is killing people globally and now more than three million people have been infected with nearly 2 million people now currently infected. Schools have been closed now for more than one month, and as of now, they are planning to keep it closed for the rest of the school year. This also caused a recession, a bigger one than 9/11 and even the 2008 recession. More than 90% of flights are getting cancelled because of this. Travel plans are even being cancelled. Amusement parks, theme parks, and other attractions are being closed. Gyms and movie theaters are also being closed, and there is a law that prevents people from going outside unless it is for an essential purpose. There is no cure for this coronavirus at the moment, and seeing how nothing has improved since this pandemic began more than six weeks ago, this is far worse than 9/11.

The coronavirus has killed more Americans than 9/11, the Afghan War, the Iraq War, and Hurricane Katrina combined. And even that combined number is way back in the rearview mirror, as we now approach 60,000 dead in this country. Simply insane.
I am finding it hard to write in these times. I am not only busier at work than I have ever been (thanking my lucky stars for that), but I just simply cannot bring myself to do it. Maybe I lack imagination, but anything I write is almost destined to be a product of a pre-coronavirus world. The world we will step out into when this is all over will be unrecognizable compared to what came before it (hopefully a better one, depending on what happens in November). But I simply can't imagine a story fit for this new world, at least not yet.

Don't know how pop culture will pan out and care even less.
