I've always felt even long before this virus started that it's more socially acceptable to be racist against Asians compared to say, black people. If you say something bad about black people it would (rightfully) be the end of you. But you can say a lot of things about (or to) Asians and no one will care.

I would never want to offend you. I recall you being Indian, right? You aren't specifically Asian at least. This is more frustrating because it affects Everyone". I like Chinese culture and history but that shouldn't mean I can't be massively disappointed with them when the opportunity arisen. Every race has flaws and those flaws should never extend outside the race.

People really think calling it the "Chinese virus" is racist lmao.
The name isn't saying that only Chinese people get it. It's named like that because it's where the virus originally came from. (Wuhan Virus works too)

(Wuhan Virus works too) It's racially insensitive. All it does is encourage more xenophobia against people of Asian descent.

I like Chinese culture and history but that shouldn't mean I can't be massively disappointed with them when the opportunity arisen. Every race has flaws and those flaws should never extend outside the race. Sorry, I wasn't talking about you, I was thinking about real life. First time I met an East Asian person was when I was around 9/10. She was a guest speaker at my school around the time of the SARS epedemic. At this point in my life I never experienced any racism myself despite being the only non-white kid in class, so I would say my school was very accepting. But a kid went up to the Asian lady and said "Hey, I can speak Chinese!" made a squinting face with his hands and said "Ching Chong Ching Chong" and every kid was laughing (not me). In high school too (late 2000s), my school had people from every background but 70% I would say were either East Asian or White. There wasn't any outward racism, but I do remember Asians usually sat in the front of class and white kids liked to sit in the back. Not everyone followed this arrangement but this was largely true. And some Asian kids, they were born in Canada and don't get along with the "Fobs" who were born in Asia and have more in common with the white kids. But when they sat in the back of the class they would get mistreated sometimes, no one would talk to them or they wouldn't be allowed to sit in the "prime" seats like the ones against the wall or beside the window. And there was a general contempt for fobs too. Hey, I admit, I was a part of that and probably enabled some of it, a lot of their behaviour was embarrassing. But I still liked talking to immigrants and making friends with them, a lot of them especially East Asians are very hard working and studious. The other kids I felt like didn't appreciate this aspect and just relentlessly made fun of them, without acknowledging their good sides.

(Wuhan Virus works too) I don't know anyone who thinks Wuhan virus is racist. That's what it was originally called. People are saying mistreatment of Asians is racist, not the name.

If something does indeed come from China I don’t see why I can’t be called “Chinese”. It is what it is. However, people of Asian descent do not deserve to be in harms way because of it.
Ime Asians receive a different type of racism than black people do.

If something does indeed come from China I don’t see why I can’t be called “Chinese”. It is what it is. It's how it is implied which is the issue, not necessarily the name itself. The flu pandemic of 1918-1920 is universally known as the "Spanish Flu". There's no controversy surrounding the name of the pandemic, even in Spain itself. The reason as to why people are complaining about the term "Chinese Flu" is because your President said it in such a way that it was racially insensitive. People of Asian descent are already experiencing a lot of grief worldwide due to the pandemic having originated in China. We don't need the 'leader of the free world' being an insensitive dick and unnecessarily singling out people of a certain ethnicity. Every other country in the world refers to and identifies it as the "coronavirus". There was no need for Trump to make that comment.

I think the reason why he’s calling it that is because he’s still butthurt that some people in China were blaming it on American soldiers.

If you're shocked about the racism Asians are dealing with right now, just remember I dealt with that same shit for years. Not surprising in the slightest. I became suicidal, tried overdosing on pills when my parents weren't home, faked myself sick to avoid going to school. It took a fucking virus for people to give a shit about racism towards Asians. Fucking great.

Fucking great. Hey man, don't worry, with the power of K-Pop, the world can come together and eradicate racism. 힘내~ 화이팅! Okay, for real, that's awful what you went through. I remember you saying in another thread that kids were saying racist things to you. I bet those kids don't even think they're racist, that's just how acceptable racism against Asians is unfortunately. I just want you to know it does get better. In high school I saw a lot of (covert) racism, but I didn't see any of that in my university or adult years. Especially if you go off to university, the racist kids don't usually make it and there are a lot of other Asians there, probably why my university years are the favourite part of my life. It does get better, trust.
