Nice, but I'm still waiting for a 2011-2012 school year thread. I still have hope that someone will make one

This era can only be described as dark and digital.
Mid 2006 - Mid 2007 had a really distinct vibe imo, technology was quickly advancing, emo was everywhere. I also like the music from around this time.

YES, I think it was you who coined the phrase Dark and Digital on another forum we won't mention and you are 100% correct, I would say things started getting dark around December 2006 and bump it up later on in the year, Apple having a press conference about the Iphone in January of 2007 was the icing on the cake. Edit- Make it November when ps3 launched things started feeling "dark"

I was 7 at the time. This is the era that immediately comes to mind when I think back to my childhood. There are a few things about this month in particular which stand out to me. One of my favourite things to do in my free time was to play my Gameboy Advance SP. I used to get up at 6am every morning and would hop into my Mum's bed to play games on my SP for about an hour or so. "Happy Feet" was my favourite game to play. Also, speaking of "Happy Feet", I went and saw that at the cinemas with my Mum, her friend and her two daughters one evening towards the end of December. I think that may have actually been the first movie I ever saw at the cinemas; I can't remember going to see any other movie before then. Astronomy was one of my biggest hobbies. For Christmas, I received two space books and a model rocket ship. I also wanted an electric guitar and a keyboard for Christmas. Unfortunately I never did end up getting a guitar, however I did receive an electronic keyboard for Christmas in 2006 and I actually still have it to this day. It was worth around $300 if i'm not mistaken.

This was my first year of high school and it was really exciting. People liked saying "Very nice!" in the Borat accent and quoting The Office. Everyone owned an iPod and people liked sharing the earbuds while sitting next to each other (kinda gross now that I think about it). Facebook was bubbling under the surface, ready to overtake Myspace. But in Canada most teens exchanged emails and used MSN to keep in touch.
The 7th generation of gaming got underway and everyone wanted their hands on a Wii or Xbox 360. Concurrently Guitar Hero for the PS2 was also really popular, and some of the best PS2 games came out around then, I'm thinking Okami and God Hand. God of War 2 came out around then but tbh I hated that series. People liked going to the arcade to play Dance Dance Revolution.
I still remember the Christmas headlines of "Wii have a problem", because people's Wiimote wrist straps would get loose and fly into people's new expensive HDTVs and LCDs which were fast replacing CRTs at the time. I also thought PDA phones with touchscreens and the stylus would be the future. Hey, I was close.

I remember this lol, I was in Senior year ( I stayed back one year due to chronic absences ) That Borat stuff got annoying like people would quote it in class out of nowhere like it would be silent and some dude yells it. I remember ps3 hype melting and just sitting in store shelves while xbox 360 and wii stole it's shine. Black Berry pearl started getting SUPER popular around this time, and that stupid Helio phone

I didn't have this exact one but I had one in my room. No need to share nasty earbuds lol This was also before Gmail was available to the public. You needed an invite code to get an account up until February 2007. I got one in the spring of 2006, I got one from my brother. I gave him a huge hug when he sent me an invite code The hype for Windows Vista was unreal too. I installed a Vista skin on my XP laptop and I would get hounded by the other kids for invite codes to the Vista Beta. But when it actually came out no one wanted it LOL

That's one aspect that makes the 2000s more similar to the 90s LMAO

Microsoft was putting Vista on machines that could only handle XP, meaning u had a ton of machines that would break for the sake of rushing a product.
