So unless you are living under a rock, the 80s is back again, in songs and in movies (Wonder Woman 1984). How do you feel about the 80s getting another push? For reference here are the other waves we have had.
Wave 1 - 2002 - 2009
That 80's show debuts on Fox, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, Vh1 I love the 80s, Vh1 changes their whole network to a 80s centric channel ( Rock of Love, Surreal life) 2005 flash dance style comes back BIG, 80s chunky earings, 2005 Tab soda comes back. Madonna's whole hung up album & Public affair by Jessica Simpson. 2006 more 80s songs sampled such as Tainted love in rihanna's SOS. Lady Gaga and Katy Perry use 80s aesthetics and references for fashion and songs. This era focused more on early-mid 80s. ALF returns as a TV LAND host. Hulk Hogan returns to WWF/WWE in 2002. 80s plug and play video game systems become a thing. Adidas track suits come back during this era as well.
Sample of 80s setting troupe in music videos in the early to mid 2000s
Wave 2 - 2010 - 2014
Almost every electropop song now has some 80s influence, More movies set in the 80s. Neon jeans at apex, Jerk movement shows a colorful 80s vibe. 80s fonts used in ads. TMNT reboot. The goldbergs. This era focused more on the late 80s. Vapor wave now more apparent then ever during this ever.
Now the 80s in general has never really gone away but it seems to being ramping up again into another "wave" there has been some bubbling like Stranger Things setting and whatnot, but now it seems the 80s is in full force again.

I don't think you can call it a third wave when 80s nostalgia has been pretty consistent since the mid-2010s. I just think that the fact two big music acts (the Weeknd and Dua Lipa) coincidently released 80s-inspired music at the same moment while the rest is currently blocked at home and pop culture is basically on a hold.
But yeah it's really tiresome at this point and hope it's just a phase before the 2020s find their own identity and move on from the retro revivalism. I can always dream...

Wait until Wonder Woman 84 comes out you will start to see more, but its not just Weekend and Dua (there have been a few releases this week that have that 80s funky beat) along with the JT joint a few weeks ago channeling 1979- 1982 vibes For the most part tho 80s has been pretty silent baseline (Stranger Things settings, A few show settings)

We don't need more 80s nostalgia. Yes the decade was great, but it's time to move on. WE NEED A WAVE OF 2000S NOSTALGIA!!

'80s nostalgia sure doesn't want to go away, does it? 1980 was four entire decades ago, which is two entire nostalgia cycles ago. The 1980s as a whole are as close to today as they are to World War II, and yet their popularity is bigger than ever. Even the hit show I Am Not Okay with This, despite being set in the present, is oozing with '80s influence, from its soundtrack, to its John Hughes feel, to its storytelling, to the two major characters both being portrayed by the same actors from the Losers Club in the 2017 remake of It, to even the general abstinence of technology that would have distracted from its retro aesthetic.

I’ve been saying this, the 2020s is gonna be the 2000s throwback and I’m gonna be here with my emo or alt rock band T-Shirts and long hair and just nod and say “I knew it” 😂
