2009. Both for pop culture that year, and for my personal life. I have said this before and Ill say it again, 2009 was like a nuclear pop culture bomb going off and destroying everything in site, the whole year was very very very very very bland, you had electropop masking it creating this kind of pop culture cognitive dissonance. What a piece of crap year that was. I did date someone briefly that Summer, it was very weird and very strange. That whole year felt like off brand soda, like if the 2000s was Coke or Pepsi 2009 was Great value.

I hate it along with 2 other people, I can't co sign 2009 - Economy in trash - Circuit City dead - Vh1 becoming shit - Toonami gone - Myspace slowly dying - Kb toys dead - Mj dead (regardless of your opinions on him/ music wise) - WWE was bad - Movies sucked other then Avatar but that was the end of the year - Nick changes to a terrible logo and rebrands - Walden books dead - Sharper Image dead - Britney Murphy died The only redeeming thing I can think about it is it had good upbeat music, Vh1 still had videos in the AM, 106 & Park was still on tv. And obv Obama's first full year. everyone is entitled to their opinion tho

No year of the 2000s was ever actually "bad" for me as such since I was a kid for the majority of the decade, however if I had to pick a year, I would have to go with 2009 as well. I didn't like the boyfriend my Mum was dating at the time. It was a hard situation for me because he was the first person my Mum had dated since my parents split up almost a decade beforehand and I did want my Mum to find someone, so I pretty much had to keep my real opinion of him to myself while they were dating each other (which was for about 2 years). He also happened to have twin sons, who I had to spend time with whenever the three of them would come over to our house. Generally I got on well with them okay and they were only a year younger than me, however I mostly found them annoying as they would never shut up. Being an only child, it was also a bit of an adjustment for me going from only ever knowing what it was like to live in a single-parent household with no siblings, to then suddenly having 5 people in the house for 1-2 nights at a time and constantly having to hang out, as well as make decisions with, two other kids around my age. My Dad also lost his job in the middle of the year and had to move in with his parents, which that in itself was a huge adjustment. It made things uncomfortable as the three of them (my Dad and my Grandparents) started to get on each others nerves due to living under the same roof and that resulted in quite a few arguments while they were together. During the first couple of weeks, I didn't even want to make eye contact with both my Dad or my Nan, as I felt so ashamed and frustrated about the situation that we had all found ourselves in. I only started to after I made them visibly upset, which then made me feel absolutely awful. I also don't particularly like the pop culture of 2009 and it would have to be the childhood year that I have the least amount of nostalgia for. I loved the music of 2007 and 2008, so when electropop started to gain traction around the turn of 2009, I saw that as being a sign that music was going downhill. The fact that rock was so obviously on it's last legs didn't sit well with me either. Because it was the year I turned 10, I also began to grow out of a lot of kid things and the kid shows, movies etc. that were popular in 2009 didn't take my interest. I've watched, and did like, the movie Up!, however I only saw it for the first time when my teacher played it in class two years later. The only kids shows I was still watching at the time were "The Simpsons", "Spongebob" and "Lab Rats Challenge". Those people would have good judgement. You probably only like it and have nostalgia for it in the first place because it was culturally similar to the Early 2010s, lol.

2006 without a doubt. Such a bland year for music. It was a strong year for albums, much better than 2009.

Another vote for 2009. I was just not in a good mood at all that year. 😓 I tend to vote more based on personal experiences than pop culture ones.
