With COVID19, schools are being closed indefinitely, and self-quarantine is strictly recommended. Stock market suffered too. I literally havent gone out of my house for this past one month, so I ask this. When will the virus be contained at least so that people can resume normal activities again? Due to nearly half of April over, I didnt include April as an option.

I've moved this to the "current events" sub-forum.
I would say 2021, at the earliest. I think restrictions will be eased throughout the course of this year, but there will still be heavy restrictions in place for things such as international air travel, sporting events and mass gatherings until sometime next year. It will take time for us to return to any degree of normality.

No way it will be that long from now, by June most places should be reopen.

No way it will be that long from now, by June most places should be reopen. That's not to say people will instantly go back to resuming their normal lives though. Thousands of people won't have a job to go back to, and if restrictions remain in place for things such as international air travel and sporting events, then I wouldn't call that a return to normality.

No way it will be that long from now, by June most places should be reopen. You're very optimistic. For some perspective, life hasn't returned to "normal" across China. Many business and education centres are still closed as a preventative measure. It's taken Wuhan about 12 weeks from their lockdown to start to open up. What makes you think that other cities/countries will be much quicker?

What's your definition of normal? I don't think large gatherings should be coming back anytime soon, that includes sport stadiums, theatres and concerts and the like. Restaurants should be spaced out. Toronto cancelled all of its summer festivals, that doesn't sound normal to me and it makes me really sad, but it had to be done.

I really hope by 2022/23 we have some semblance of a normal economy and a normal life. I really hope we aren't waiting until the 2030s like some people predict we might be.

No way. 2022 is too long, by then things will have likely gone back to normal.

I doubt June as a reasonable answer. At best, that will give us about 3 months of things being open before the virus starts to reoccur in the fall.

I really feel for all of you in the US, it's complete madness that Trump is still wanting to "re-open" the country by as early as the 1st May. Thousands more people will lose their lives if it goes ahead and their deaths would have all been preventable. Scary times.

I'm for "reopening" the economy, but I just hope the 3-phase plan unveiled in yesterday's press briefing is meticulously successful. We can't just rush into things before reinfections start to occur.

Social distancing and self isolation are normal for me anyway. I am agoraphobic and have a mental health disorder and am uncomfortable around people. I'm all for it!

Well the vaccine will be available at the earliest in 2021 and the latest in 2022. However, that does not mean the virus will not be contained before the vaccine is developed. However, the number of active cases do need to go down in order for the virus to not spread as rapidly.
