I'm pretty sure a thread like this already exists, but it's probably buried at this point. And since the decade's completely over now, you now have a clear opinion on each year. Some of your opinions may have changed, so let's see how this turns out. 2018 will always be the worst year of the decade in my opinion. It was a boring year with so many stupid and cringe trends, horrible mumble rap, the whole summer was terrible weather wise, and very few good things came out of that year. However, 2016 and 2019 are close seconds. In honor of the "Worst Year of the 2000s" poll.

2012 was the worst for me personally, but from a pop cultural perspective, I would go with 2016. I still stand by my belief that it was the worst year for Top-40 music in the 21st Century and quite possibly the worst since the early '60s. 2018 wasn't particularly great either, however there are quite a few songs from that year which I enjoy and it also happened to be a great year for movies. That gives it the slight edge. 2016, on the other hand, has little redeeming qualities whatsoever. I like Deadpool, as well as songs such as "Spirits", "Bang Bang" and "Empire" (none of which charted within the Top-40), but that's about it. It was an awful year for trends.

Let's face it: Everything started to suck when summer 2016 ended.

Personally, 2016 was one of the worst years of my personal life, especially the summer.
Since this seems like it's focusing more on pop culture, I'd probably have to go with 2019. I do like a lot of songs from that year, such as "Old Town Road", "Money In The Grave", "Bad Guy" (Billie's only song I actually like), and "Sucker", but the mainstream billboards were forgettable af.

2019. Fuck that year, I had my worst depression, I had trouble thinking due to brain fog, I was used by a group of fake friends, and I was a fatass. Pop culture was so boring during the time as well, movies were all Disney remakes, music was garbage, game releases were garbage, 80% of pop culture during that year were garbage.

Let's face it: Everything started to suck when summer 2016 ended. Yeah. Honestly, 2017 was the last full good year for me, 2018 was mediocre, and 2019 was disgusting.

2016 was a disastrous year for world events and proto-2020 in many ways so obviously that.

2013 since my sister got brain cancer that year. My grandma passed away in January 2014 too but I tend to associate that string of bad events with 2013. Pop culturally I didn't think any year was bad.

2011 since I was not able to have a summer trip at all that year due to my dad having to look for a new job throughout the summer, and I went over six months without a cell phone that year too. For me, 2017 and 2018 were oddly better than the other years of the 2010s. I didnt have one last summer as my schedule did not let me, but I traveled during January, November, and New Years Eve of last year, whereas back in 2011, I went from September 2010-end of December 2011 without a trip. I was not even able to go on the end of middle school field trip due to having too many enemies in eighth grade cause these three guys managed to turn people against me pretty easily. In freshman year of high school, my biology teacher had a memory problem that prevented her from entering good grades correctly, and she is notorious for failing lots of students due to her losing school work, and during the whole December, I was maintaining a D plus in her class cause of that, and a C minus was needed for me to pass to chemistry. Luckily, I was able to get her to fix it in February. In terms of world events, late 2014 onwards was when it became terrible with all those terrorist attacks starting with the Paris bombing.

2017 was a great personally, however, it was incredibly depressing politically. From the new #MeToo movement to the riots in Charlottesville & the tragic shooting in Las Vegas. There were unfortunately many tragedies that took place & bled into 2018.
