I usually have a pretty good tolerance for overplay as long as the song itself is pretty tolerable (which I did in order to survive 2017 and the Shape of You-Despacito onslaught), but I can think of a couple of songs that were definitely hurt due to overexposure. It doesn't help this song is very corny and cliche, but the fact I've been hearing it all my life just makes me wish to never hear it again. I can't stand those first piano notes for instance, it just gives off the signal that I will hear that goddamn sneary song for the millionth time. This is a classic example of overexposure ruining the lasting legacy of a song. To be honest, I actually think "Don't Stop Believin'" is a genuinely good song, but it's near impossible for me to listen to it without thinking about the connotations associated with it. I never liked "Boom Boom Pow" either. It's interesting that you should use that Black-Eyed Peas song as an example though, because I can actually remember hearing "I Gotta Feeling" far more often than "Boom Boom Pow". Absolutely. The Top-40 stations in my local area are playing it several times a day.

Almost every overplayed hit from 1998 to today is mostly annoying at the very least today. For some reason music from 1990-1995 like eurodance, alt rock and gangsta rap never got overplayed throughout thet 2000s and 2010s/present like to extent to which 1998 to present day music which is weird as fuck. 80s top 40 pop also gets overplayed as hell, compared to core 90s, 70s and 60s music, how many times will they play micheal jackson, madonna and georget micheal?. This is ruined the quality of 80s pop imo.
1997 was the last full year to have bearable overplayed music which includes chumbawba, hanson, bush, marilyn manson, the spice girls, celine dion, jewel, savage garden, backstreet boys, aqua, puff daddy, the verve and green day. Sounds 10x better than most overplayed music from 1998-00/2001 imo.

I will take "Oops I Did It Again", any Eminem song and whatever else was overplayed in 2000 over lame-o Hanson and the Macarena in a 10 million bajilion years.
