2001 was the first summer I didn’t have cable at both my parents houses. With not that many alternatives back then it was hard. Nowadays even with just a plain rabbit ear antenna PBS kids is it’s own 24 hour channel. They don’t have To sit through “Sewing with Nancy” during the weekend or have to see this and get disappointed when Zoom or Arthur ends like 2000s kids and before without cable had to. (Thank goodness) watching this video makes me glad I had mtv in the early 2000s, not sure on your state but MTV 2 was added over the air for free for many stations. If your state had the channel THE BOX in the 90s you prob had MTV 2 and did not know it, MTV bought out the BOX and put MTV 2 in it's place. It caused a huge controversy because it violated FCC guidelines.

After the cartoons were over and there was nothing but Golf, Wimbledon Tennis, Paid Programs, NASCAR, Sewing With Nancy, or some movie from 1993 I don’t care about. So Had to go outside and make up my own fun until COPS came on. Then America’s Most Wanted, after that I switched it to PBS to watch Red Green until the news was over on Fox. Then Mad Tv came on and after that, Maximum Exposure, after that it was bedtime for me. And that was my Saturday nights circa July 2001. Thank god for YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, D+, or just having extra sub channels on today’s digital tv, those days made me appreciate what we have today.

I had that in the past. I liked it. Don’t subscribe to it now. Gotta save money somewhere. My family seems to like Pluto Tv. It’s pretty good, Mostly reruns. One thing I like is that these are also apps on or phones and iPads. I would have killed to have something that showed cable tv channels anywhere I go. Like those little Casio TVs back in the day. I still have mine I bought with my birthday money in 2003.

Looks the 90s to me, the only thing that differentiates it from the 90s is the skater picture and the digital camera quality.
Even some haircuts look straight out of 1996

Even some haircuts look straight out of 1996 2001 and 2002 have late 1990s influences with 2002 being the last full year of them. Throughout early and mid 2001, culture transitions from the late 1990s and or Y2K era to the early 2000s. By July 2001, early 2000s culture is almost done solidifying like 75% to 80%. By the fourth quarter of 2001, early 2000s culture arrives. Right now in 2021, culture is in a similar state. exactly, back in Summer 2001 in July I remember being @ camp and someone played Pop by NYSNC, and the kid on the bench goes " UGHH THAT Teen pop crap who still even listens to that ? " and everyone waiting for the bus all said the same thing, I remember it so well LOL as if I was there yesterday

" and everyone waiting for the bus all said the same thing, I remember it so well LOL as if I was there yesterday LMAO wow the teen pop hate and backlash was real in 2001. I guess teen pop is starting to get long in the tooth around fall 2000 to winter 2000/2001, getting unbearable by spring to summer 2001. I think throughout 2001, late 1990s teen pop artists and groups are splitting, maturing, growing up to fit in with the edgy, hip hop, skater, punk rock early 2000s vibe, backlashing against the late 1990s squeaky clean aesthetic. Around 2017 that happened again with mid 2010s teen pop artists, but they transitioned to the dark late 2010s trap vibe. Maybe that might happen with BTS. The other day I heard about BTS happy meal toy which almost reminded me of the Britney Spears, NSYNC or Backstreet Boys happy meal toy in 2000 or 2001. It was really bad, like anytime a teen pop song would come on you would roll your eyes. This happened again when a Jessica Simpson song attempted to chart after 9/11 and EVERYONE panned it and fell free fall style and never recovered. -0000000 chart position LOL, the same with the On the Line soundtrack. Anything that attempted to be a teen pop cash grab in Fall 2001 got destroyed, I just laugh to think that the labels even tried to do it. If you notice in my threads that have the MTV website on the internet atmosphere threads, there is a forum that you could go to and rate on the morning songs. Me and and a bunch of anti teen pop renegades spammed the board and got multiple teen pop songs kicked off the morning. They were never played on MTV and MTV 2 after we spammed the boards. The following songs that got kicked off.
it was so bad MTV locked the forums for a month
we are also the same renegade group that got a song from the 80s to chart on TRL in 1999 we basically trolled MTV for several years, read more about our efforts here

It's crazy because it doesn't really feel like the early 20s rn, it just feel like 2019 + covid

Yikes the backlash that bedroom pop and trap receives today does not compare to the backlash teen pop gets in 2001. LMAO you all were savages, but that is great all of you got to voice your say on what music should be played. I did not know that you can do that then. How funny! I wonder if Jessica Simpson ever adjusted to the times and charted again successfully. I remember you mentioned how her sister Ashlee Simpson was groomed as the next rockstar in 2004. Too bad she fell off in late 2004 or early 2005 after being booed off the stage for lip singing. Wow those labels must have really loved the teen pop and wanted to hold on it. Their eyes could not handle Britney Spears "I'm a Slave 4 U" and her iconic snake. 2001 is the year of the snake. They wanted Britney to remain an innocent, goody two shoes, teacher's pet girl. I am not nostalgic over teen pop from any era, including the Y2K era. Thank goodness that died by fall 2001. Yeah it was pretty crazy, Jessica did have 2 hits in 2003 but they were not Teen Pop at all very different, more on the just pop side. it is a shame what happened with Ashlee, she was being groomed as the NEXT BIG THING, imagine if she didn't go on SNL that day, she would have had more chart success.
