I didn't have one but TBH I wouldn't be surprised if it's better than the original Gameboy. The Gameboy only had a few games worthy of playing.

I think it is very underrated. It was very portable and had some really good exclusive games, a lot of us were brainwashed by nintendo. When you are a 16 and under, which was most of us when they came out, you don't necessarily have the option to play all the games.
I think the adapter and longer lasting batteries was the way to go.

The Game Boy had a better selection of games, but the Game Gear was by far the better handheld. When I was a kid, the Game Gear was sort of looked at as being for rich kids. There were only a few kids I knew that owned a Game Gear, and their parents were all pretty wealthy.
The funny thing is that none of us actually knew whether it was more expensive than the Game Boy. It just seemed like it was for rich kids because it looked so much better graphically.

Sonic Triple Trouble was pretty much a 16 bit game on a 8 bit Game Gear, LOVED it and Sega was ahead of the game at the time. Mega Man went hard 2. When Game Boy color dropped in 98 I was like..............Game Gear been doing this lmao

I will never forget going into Circuit City and playing 8-bit Sonic 1 on it. It was like having a Sega Genesis in your hand.

There were so many great exclusives ex. sonic, shonibi, golden axe, etc Atari lynx also was pretty good. I think the gameboy color was overrated especially because the it wasn't fully color and had so many re releases of games just released 5 years prior. I prefer the pocket era, when gameboy camera was all the rage. I remember the blue underwater edition and when playstation and N64 games were first getting gameboy ports. When pokemon first came out it was still the pocket era. I like that period a bit more.

LMAO it looked so bad. I remember Pocket it dropped around the time of DK land 2.

If only pokemon came to the north america in 1996 or 1997 it would have better so we could get stuff like this instead of people collecting $500 beanie babies and endless pogs:

The quality was sooo bad looking back on it, lol.

Europe saw Pokémon released even later in 1999, when Pokémon Gold and Silver were set to release in Japan. In only 4 years time, Europe saw the rushed releases of Pokémon Red and Blue to Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, which is crazy to think about !

I got my first taste of pokemon in 1997 when it was all over the news for the seizure episode, I thought it was strange as hell looking @ pikachu. I think we needed Tamagotchi and Digimon coming out in 97 to bridge us to the collect a monster trend. It was kind of warming us up.
