The 2007-2008 school year were arguably core 2000s. I don't want another decadeology showdown but I would agree with that. I still associate 2002 to summer of 2008 with its Beijing Olympics and Michael Phelps and listening to the Offspring album and thinking Katy Perry was going to be a punk rocker and it all screams 2000s.

tHE CoRE 2000S enDEd In laTe 2007 Most people who say that are older and have a more narrow perception of time. In reality 2007 was not much different from 2006 Yeah, a lot of older users really do tend to exaggerate the differences between the 2000's years, especially on inthe00s. 2008 wasn't really that different from 2006 for example. There are obviously some differences but they're way too exaggerated.

People perceive things differently and one year isn't going to be dramatically different from the year before it. Even 2020, with all that is going on in the world right now, isn't any different from 2019 in terms of the pop culture trends that are popular. At the end of the day, 2007 and 2008 were both '00s years and that's what they should be thought of as.

They believe in the late 2006 sheesh because of things like Hannah Montana or that Justin Timberlake album in reality those things were part of the 2000s zeitgeist regardless.

You guys can disagree with me but Late 2007 is still Core 2000s. HDTV's were gaining steam but CRT's were still being used, the Emo scene was still at its peak, Flip phones are still all the rage, and more. And not to mention that shows like The Office, How I met your mother, and House were still in their golden age.

The Great Recession did start around November/December 2007 but its effects weren't truly felt until Mid/Late 2008.

Also, late 2007 was the last hurrah for crunk music

I do think that the Core 2000s ended in Late 2008 though

You guys can disagree with me but Late 2007 is still Core 2000s. Just curious, but because you were born in 2004, would 2007 be the first year that you have memories of or do you have vague memories of 2006?

I do have some bits and pieces of memories here and there in 2006, but my first actual clear memories were around 2009

Let me chime in as someone who was a teen in the 2000s 2007, is indeed part of the core 2000s, but the "2000s feeling atmosphere" was not as strong as previous years, the same with 2008 that was a core year as well but WATERED down as hell.

Man, Katy Perry as a punk rocker, imagine how different pop culture of the '10s would've been. I kinda wish it had leaned that way, even if she had gone fully pop punk like Avril Lavigne.

Also, I don't even think the Great Recession officially started until December 2007. The recession didn't start in 2007. What happened in 2007 was the peak of foreclosures on mansions and unpayed mortgages, which eventually led to the collapse of the housing market in the US due to investments losing their value and served as the cataclysm of a severe recession in late 2008. The economy itself was doing good in 2007 and most of 2008 until all hell broke loose in September 2008.

Funny thing is that Katy Perry actually released a Christian rock album under her birthname in the early 2000s, which flopped: "One of the Boys" and her new persona was meant as a middle finger towards her very Christian family.
