Maybe that's why it took until spring 1999 to get popular in the US. I started to doubt my own memories of it being popular in 1998 Looks like it was just a country difference. I think over here it started airing on YTV (the biggest kid channel) in late 1998 and was popular right away. That's how I remember it. bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_in_Canada I remember winning some badges while playing the game at this card shop in 1999-2000 they would also have magic the gathering, board games and comics, I think. It was on younge street and know for magic the gathering possibly next to a convenience store. Recall any names?I couldn't find it last summer when I looked around. Any idea if it's still there? I remember the bouncing balls in 1998 or very early 99 can't remember. There's something about the hand drawn art and the early merch that seems more interesting for some reason. The thing is for a while especially in 1998 and in the early stages of pokemania, there wasn't this stigma around liking pokemon like towards the end of the craze and after where it was more likely friends of friends were vocal about thinking it was kids gimmick or bit stupid. There were a lot teens and even adults openly into it at the time, it wasn't really as frowned upon. Especially the game and cards. There are tons of comic book stores on Yonge Street. I don't really remember any names though. :/ Those early Pokémon merch are way cool!

Check this out: Pokemon, Dreamcast, GBC etc previewed for the first time at E3 during May 1998
