Found a gallery where somebody has been gathering certain aesthetics. (Mostly from the 80s and 90s) www.are.na/evan-collins-1522646491Advertising and design for kids in the 90s and early 2000s is apparently dubbed “Wonka PoMo” by this person. www.are.na/evan-collins-1522646491/wonka-pomo“That 'wacky kidz' marketing aesthetic prominent from the late 1980s to the early 2000s, an amalgam of exaggerated motifs pulled from Googie, Memphis Milano, 1940s-60s comics & cartoons, Willy Wonka-esque Victorian whimsical eccentricism (including 'Mad Scientist tropes), cartoonified industrial vernacular, and light gross-out kids' humor (goo, ooze). Typically bright, loud, acid-toned colors similar to the 'Cyber/Gen-X Corporate' style. Sometimes other contemporaneous aesthetics like Multiplex Deco or Cyber Gen-X Corporate are incorporated, albeit with a cartoon-ified touch. 'Hypnosis spirals' are a common motif, interesting considering the marketing demographic & controversy around children's marketing during that era.“So what do you think of this? And the other aesthetics Posted on this guy’s site?

That already has a name for it its been coined before this, I forget what it was called tho, it was coined around the time New Kids on the Block were using those stretched out fonts.

Really like this site can’t stop looking at it. I wish people would go back to creating ads that were more using a lot less photoshop and more illustration and art.

Holy shit, I remember a bunch of these. They are visually appealing, but many of them had their time and I wouldn't want to go back. Edit: Wow, I'm back from the absolute black hole of time that was that site. I have a soft spot in my heart for this: www.are.na/froyo-tam/frutiger-aero

I have a soft spot in my heart for this: www.are.na/froyo-tam/frutiger-aeroI still have a Windows Vista laptop I bought in 2008. It was my main computer from 2008-2011. I haven’t turned it on in years.

Omg yes that crafty whimsical mystical stuff, I remember that quite well. The whole sun and moon thing, the sun dials. I have this very specific memory of picking out a clip in hair wrap at a hotel when I was 3, and one was navy and yellow with a half sun half moon bead. I lowkey regret not getting that one just because of how of its time it was. I had almost forgotten about this aesthetic until I was watching a dead mall video featuring a clearly circa 1998 food court. One of the vendors had the creepiest smiling sun hanging up that I really question whether it scared away customers lmao.
Disney Parks made a lot of use of this whole vibe, all of them featured here really. A little too much in their California Adventure park, especially considering it didn't open until 2001. The sun ferris wheel being a really obvious example. Though it goes off in a slightly different direction, I'd almost lump in the clown motifs which were also reasonably popular around the same time.
Does anyone remember when chef stuff was popular? Like wearing chef hats, pictures/statues of cartoony chefs, etc. It vibes similar. I'm feeling late 90's but it may have stuck around a while. I imagine it went along with the food network/gourmet foods craze.
