Did anyone else get annoyed by aggressive apple advertising and the sort of cult like following from 2004 to 2015 or so ?
While they undeniably produce great products, there was a time when it felt like apple was marketed as the one and only brand to get that could not be criticized because it was just perfect, and there were always enough apple fanboys/fangirls or people saying this even if certain products proved to be the opposite.
What comes to mind was the phase of questionably made laptops that could actually be more faulty than PC laptops, easily damaged, overpriced and trickier to use. I always felt their products sometimes felt cheaper material wise. Everytime you would complain about a legitimate apple defect or issue whether it was to the stores, customer support or to the average fanboys, which were very common, they would always pretend that nothing every could go wrong with an apple product or that you must have not figured something out.
Also, there was a point when fashionistas and certain kinds of hipsters made you feel that if you didn't have all the latest apple gear you weren't good enough. It was like a status symbol.
Lastly, I always felt Iphones/Itunes had a massive role in replacing cds and music shopping for a while, before vinyl made a comeback in 2008, as I always preferred visiting physical music stores. Even though mp3s were big during 2000-early 2004, discmans were still big, and Cd purchasing was still a big thing in malls, that seemed to be replaced with Ipods in 04-08 and onwards. This is more of a personal thing but, I just didn't like the trendy/techy stuff associated with the ipod and that it helped replace the physical ritual of going out and buying higher quality and less compressed music.
Other things that annoy me is the uniformity of the product design, why did and do all products look nearly identical for such a long time, and the way everyone used and worshiped the same brand as well, it just made culture a bit more homogeneous, compared to other eras.
Again there are many great products, this is more of a criticism of the brand popularity at the time. It doesn't really feel like this today and outside of the iPhone there isn't this massive fixation with apple, pop culturally, like before I think.
What's your take on Apple from this time?

I thought it started later. Maybe it was just a right place, right time thing, but it really seemed to start around 2007/2008.

I thought Apple's popularity with young people would have started in the late 90's/early 00's with the imac and ipod. Though I can't stand using Macs, I do think Apple was a very respectable company from 1998 to 2014 considering their leading role in many innovations.

It did, which is why I mentioned that regardless it still created some great products. I’m 1998-2003/2004 it wasn’t a mandatory thing to get nor was it over advertised like with iPods. Mac book pro laptops and iPhones etc from 2004/2005 to the the mid 2010s

The company started to lose it's way after Steve Jobs passed and we really started seeing the results of that around the middle of the 2010s, which in my opinion was when Apple started to become less cool than they once were.

By 2001, Jobs got his head above water. Then he gave more headspace to education. The following year, Apple launched the eMac — specifically targeted at schools — and achieved wide penetration on campuses.

Tbh aggressive advertisement has been Apple's ethos since the late 90s at least. I think they toned down a bit in the last few years when their ads just got bland and saccharine. But before that you had their ads so overdone that they ingrained in people's minds ever since.

Well, since we're talking about Apple's pop culture influence in the 2010s, I'm not a fan of them and their overpriced "luxury" products. My jaw dropped back in 2017 when I heard the iPhone X was gonna be $1000 with the retail price, and I didn't like the fact that they removed the headphone jack with iPhone 7 since most people (that I've witnessed) still listened music and media with wired headphones back then.
