It's been years but I changed my opinion on 2009, Summer 2009 is the real end of the 2000s, theres too many 2000s things (2000s vh1, Blockbuster, flip phones still in use) to not say the 2000s feeling was still there. Emo and scene was still there on a VERY low low low level. Myspace was still there was well (it was still popular despite Facebook overtaking it)
Kb Toys and Circuit City still had some stores up and running in 2009 as well before they were shuttered. That was not to say Hipster and electropop was not rising, its just that I feel more towards fall 2009 things had a more 180 vibe. Yes in 2009 did have a tiny bit of a different hint of vibe to it, it was not as strong as other years but it was still there. 2009 was always on of those years I never touched because I passed it off as non canon. I have been doing some reflection on that year and after doing some intense research and data testing I can conclude 2009 is indeed part of the 2000s subculture (just on a low minute level)
2009 was a Tug of War battle 2000s culture VS 2010s culture it was a back and forth all year long

That was the peak of my Girls' Generation and SHINee obsession. Fantasy land indeed! I probably shouldn't be nostalgic for that since the main singer committed suicide.

I think 2009 was still mostly 2000s, when I look back there is still a real lack of 2010s stuff and still a heap of 2000s things.

Indeed and as I reflect and remember it feeling like a tug of war of 2000s vs 2010s with 2000s beating the game until fall when 2010s took more in control. The fact of the matter is this toonami was already DOA by 2007 when they changed the mascot to the thomas the tank engine. That being canceled did not change the vibe as much as I previous thought. Myspace was still popping (just not to the mega levels it was before) AIM was still being used. BLOCKBUSTER Fing video was still a place we went to rent DVDS & blurays. That summer for the most part did indeed feel 2000s. After that summer ended I can say all of the lingering 2000s feelings/vibe were officially gone. The vibe I get from Summer 2009 is sunset vibes, I remember walking around with people in Suburbia going into Blockbuster just walking around until the sun set. It had the same culture feeling if that makes sense. It was still there. I often forget Scene was still a major player this Summer. Did it feel like classic 2000s ? No.......But it had a classic late 2000s feel. It was transitional but the transition was not complete until later in the year around Q4.

Yeah I agree, makes sense. It wasn't until the very end of 2009 that the new vibe kicked in.
