Eh, I was never a fan of IGN anyway.

Cancel culture is stupid, 99% of the things they want to cancel will not be cancelled. Plus IGN was already "cancelled" in the sense that nobody really even liked them at all to begin with.

That's not that bad of a statement after the clarification. I never touched IGN though, I was always a Gamespot kid.

I really don't like it when people cancel people who are clearly on their side. A song comes to mind: ''🎵Every little thing I do Never seems enough for you 🎵'' Actually, this reminds me of some Internet drama on a forum I lurk. Two members from there were guilt-tripping all the white members by being all, ''Whatever, you won't understand us, you're all white anyway.'' IMO, there are two ways to interpret it: they're being crybullies, or they're bitter about past experiences of racism and they are influenced by hanging out in social circles where it's acceptable to have an ''It's not my job to educate you'' attitude.

Yeah I mean it came off as clunky and like passing the buck, but he seems at least somewhat remorseful. I don't know who he is or what else he says/does though.
I do however see cancel culture becoming like "the boy who cried wolf". I'm completely onboard with having a zero tolerance policy for the scumbags of the Earth. Meanwhile, I'm afraid that totally "cancelling" those with comparatively mild offensives will bastardize the whole concept. Not to dismiss the frustration surrounding letting people off the hook, but I think it's okay to give those who seem redeemable a chance to learn and grow.
I've done enough amateur editing and tutoring to see that the average person is not very proficient at expressing their thoughts via writing. And not terribly long ago, it was not something that was required of the general public. I don't say this to make excuses for anybody, as much as express my lack of surprise at how many social media blunders are occurring.
Honestly I'm not so confident this era of candor is going to last the whole rest of the decade. PR is a skill to some degree.

How I feel every time I see people from that forum insert themselves into American politics:
