Not sure if 2015 appreciation thread or 2020 lament thread I miss Obama so much. 2009-2015 was a golden era. When I say I love the 2010s I mean those years.

The entire 2010s were a golden era compared to 2020. I had a feeling though after Trump was elected that something like this was coming. In fact it was a significant source of anxiety for me from 2017-19. The only way it could get any worse, in my opinion, is if Trump started a war with China. It's something that's a real possibility. He might just get re-elected as well. The evangelical Christians are still enthusiastically behind him. Imagine hating people so much that you'll destroy your entire country just to take away their rights. Fuck Donald Trump and FUCK Evangelical Christians.

2015 was more of an optimistic time (Because Trump wasn't elected yet), while 2020 is dark and depressing.

I was starting to feel nostalgic for 2015 even before the pandemic began. The fact that it's 5 years ago now really blows my mind, it literally only feels like yesterday that I was 16 and thinking about what pop culture was like back then. I'm sure it's just a feeling from me getting older, but it's really starting to dawn on me how fast time goes. I've almost been 21 for 3 months now, and yet, it seems as though they've gone by in a flash. The years are starting to seem the same for me. Before I know it, i'll be 30 years old and wishing that I had made the most of my early 20s.

2015 was one of the greatest years in my life. I truly miss it. It sure wasn't all happy thoughts, like terrorist violence soaring in that year before seamingly peaking in 2016. But whatever negativity about that year is completely blown out of the water by 2020's horrors. Also that rainbow White House is a blessed image. Truly the last hurrah of the Obama era. The fact that Trump's presidency was still widely seen as an absurd joke truly makes the year otherworldly. A wild dream if you want:

I think I'd do just about anything just to relive 2015. It was by far one of the best years of my life. The entire year was just amazing and optimistic, both personally and pop culturally.

I know right, I remember travelling a lot in British Columbia, Vancouver and Victoria city, and we listened to a lot of trending music that summer, we also saw lots of hipsters and people with the selfie stick fad. Good times, it soo felt like 3 days ago 😌

I would still rather be in 2015 than 2020. At least we had a strong democratic leader in 2015.

Despite ISIS causing havoc around the world, I still really liked 2015. One of my favorite albums ever (To Pimp a Butterfly) came out, I enjoyed a lot of music that were popular back then (Can't Feel My Face, Here, Shut Up and Dance, and the Cheerleader remix, for example), I became more happy with the help of my dad and school therapist after my mom's passing back in 2014, and I loved playing games such as Super Mario Maker and Splatoon. I also remember that people were usually a lot less hostile towards one another back then.
We may have 6 months to go with 2020, but the year so far is a trainwreck. We're in a global recession, worldwide pandemic, and a state of civil unrest. I most likely will not look at this year in high regard in the future. It's just one major calamity after another.
