I was watching a Nine News report on the London tower fire a few minutes ago and the report showed footage in which you could clearly hear the screaming from a woman who was still in the burning tower. I honestly don't think it is acceptable that the particular footage was shown in the report, as I personally don't think it was appropriate and it was very insensitive. Yes, I understand that the footage was aired for news coverage purposes, but it's disturbing to consider that the woman who was screaming from the tower may have lost her life. I think the media can cross the line sometimes with the footage that they show in news reports.

Another instance of the insensitivity of the media occurred on Nine News last night. There was a report about the parents of Otto Warmbier, a young American who was detained by North Korea and tortured until release, describing the ordeal Warmbier went through before the regime released him back to the US. There was a brief scene in the report which showed Warmbier sobbing uncontrollably in court and was pleading for a "not-guilty" verdict. I understand the need to report on this story, but was it really necessary to show the footage of him in court?
It was really horrible to watch and especially considering that he was only arrested by North Korean authorities, due to wanting to take home a Government poster as a souvenir.

This report was shown at the start of tonight's Nine News bulletin and I think it's disgustingly insensitive. That poor woman has lost her life as a result of someone stalking her for a long period of time and the report makes a complete mockery of it.
The introduction to the report is particularly disrespectful; "describing her as a friendly soul, always coming and going, neighbours never thought they would see Kristie Powell leave her home like this", while simultaneously showing paramedics wheeling her body out of the house. I think that's really distasteful. Imagine how her family and friends must feel seeing the report delivered in that manner. It's awful.

It's bad and they just want to sensationalize everything! I remember a report done on some flood where a news helicopter was hovering over a woman desperately clinging to a tree waiting for help while the reporter kept talking. If that's not in bad taste I don't know what is.

If that's not in bad taste I don't know what is. That's awful to hear. Hopefully the news helicopter at least alerted authorities about the woman who was in need of rescuing. Still, it's pretty bad that the reporter continued talking.
