I was just listening to a Hit Songs Of 2015 playlist on Apple music. Pretty much every song sounded dated. I genuinely can't imagine something like this being popular in 2020 or even 2017. Likewise, can you imagine these songs sounding in place in 2015?

Yep, 2015 surely feels removed from today. Even plenty of songs from 2016 sound dated.
These songs wouldn't see the light of day if it were to be released today

These songs wouldn't see the light of day if it were to be released today 2015 and 2017 have a big gap when it comes to music. 2015 still had that DJ Mustard influence, whereas by 2017 it was mostly gone. This 2017 song would sound out of place in 2015.

Even trap from 2015 sounds different from today. I feel like there was a transition in music in 2016 that continued throughout that year. I think 2015 and 2017 are one of the biggest two year gaps of the 2010's. I may be a little biased due to personal reasons, but music in 2017 definitely sounded more downbeat than in 2015.

There were plenty of songs from early-mid 2016 that sounds exactly like the songs from 2015 because they were released or recorded in 2015. I wouldn't imagine Bodak Yellow or XO Tour Life being hits in 2015. Hot take but songs from 2015 is even closer to 2010 than today.

It definitely was a fun time for music! I feel old now seeing how these songs won't chart easily nowadays...

2015 feels so disconnected from today, it's not just the music.
Yeah, some elements don't feel exactly dated, but you gotta admit it was mostly a different time. Even 2016 is looking aged right now.

Not just the music, pop culture as a whole has changed drastically with or without the pandemic.
I wish I could go back to those days

I wish I could go back to those days Yep, it is a very different time. 2016 is also starting to look dated. 2015-2016 imo looks semi dated. 2014 was a very different time & is dated. Maybe around 2021-2022 is when I might say 2015-2016 is officially dated. Something about 2015-2016 still feels recent 2 me.

There are some factors that make 2015-2016 recent such as the presence of Donald Trump. However, many things from those two years are not that relevant in pop culture like they used to be.

I agree we are still in the same general era just the very very end of it. 2015-2016 was solidly leaning towards the late 2010s, even if it wasn’t there yet it felt transitional. 2015-2016 has more in common with late 16 and early 17 than surrounding years.
