I agree we are still in the same general era just the very very end of it. 2015-2016 was solidly leaning towards the late 2010s, even if it wasn’t there yet it felt transitional. 2015-2016 has more in common with late 16 and early 17 than surrounding years. Yup I’m with u on all that. I already thought we were transitioning into the late 2010s by summer 2015. I don’t think late 2010s peaked until fall 2017. I view summer 2015-summer 2017 as an era. Maybe summer 2015-summer 2021 can be seen as it’s own mini decade. Fall 2009-spring 2015 can be seen as it’s own mini decade. The ties 2 2015-2016 will hopefully broken by fall 2021. I could c a 2015 Travis Scott song like “Antidote” coming out in 2017 or well into the late 2010s, maybe even 2020 & I wouldn’t bat an eyelid. Tyler the Creator’s 2017 album, Flower Boy was recorded in 2015-2016. That whole album sounds late 2010s. 2015-2016 lean late 2010s & laid the foundations 4 the era we’re currently in. A lot of the Weeknd music from 2015 can pass as late 2010s & it wouldn’t sound outta place. 2015 was when pop culture started 2 get dark & depressing. I think maximalism fashion & early 2000s or 1990s nostalgia took off that year which is still arguably going strong. I blame 2015 4 our current state. I mean, we are talking about our perspective in 2020, not 2017 or 2018. What I am saying is that there was a mini-shift in late 2018-2019 that makes 2015-2016 a bit disconnected and even more so in 2020. Antidote by Travis Scott is heavily influenced by cloud rap which is not that popular anymore. Don't just look at the trap songs, there were plenty of songs then sound very much their time such as What Do You Mean, Work From Home, Took a Pill In Ibiza, Cake By The Ocean. These songs have certain production trends that you don't hear a lot in 2020. Yes, late 2010s trends were manifesting itself in 2015/2016, but we need to understand that it was still a mid 2010s world and the late 2010s factors were a minority. I can maybe see Fall 2015-Summer 2017 as one era but until summer 2021 is a stretch. We don't even know what 2021 will be like.

Crazy to think that in 2021 2015 will be the same distance away as 2009 was to 2015.
