This fall 2019 song by Post Malone sounded very unique at the time considering that trap dominated 2019 (and this year unfortunately). Will Circles be the foundation of the music of 2020s? I heard songs with similar productions such as Watermelon Sugar and Supalonely, where they both have this dreamy and airy guitar-based production. Maybe we will hear more songs like this around 2021-2022. It took some time for Lorde's influence on pop music during the mid 2010s.

It's hard to say. I would be more inclined to say that the song was just a one-off and we're unlikely to see anything else resemble it in the Top-40, but who really knows. The coronavirus pandemic could very well bring about a new wave of indie-inspired pop.

I honestly think at this point this kind of indie stuff is more just meant to target older Millenials and radio people and generally broadening their audiences as such. It's a practice that shows promise and will probably be done more in the future.
But currently teenagers, the biggest streaming consumers, all they want is trap, trap, sad pop and more trap.

I hate to be that person, but I still don't think Circles sounds different enough to be new and exciting. I think we're just going to have to wait.

I wish, it doesn't sound like anything that would come out in 2015/16

I have to agree that this song isn’t particularly novel. Tbh it reminds me of what’s been going on in country. #monogenre

A shame too because I hate trap.

The early 2020s will probably be dominated by anything that caters to TikTok, however that's distinguished from late 2010s SoundCloud rap.
