Snap is basically a laid back and minimal version of Crunk. It got its start in 2005 with Wait Till You See My Dick and Laffy Taffy. When Soulja Boy came out with Crank That in 2007, it was very massive and a peak for the genre. It seems that when 2008 started, there were no new snap songs in the Billboard charts. Could Soulja Boy’s unlikeable personality killed the genre?

I wouldn't say it killed it. If anything, "Soulja Boy" gave snap-rap a boost in popularity, as the song charted in countries which were otherwise resistant to snap-rap such as the UK and here in Australia. If I were to guess why it died off when it did, I would pinpoint it down to Lady Gaga's (and ultimately, electropop's) breakthrough being such a huge phenomenon that it changed the tide in terms of where popular music was heading. Times were changing and so were people's tastes.
