This song, by Lil Wayne, peaked in mid-2008, so it is technically a late 2000's song, yet I've always felt like it sounded different than something that would be popular in 2006/2007. For instance, I think something like "Crank That", "I.N.D.E.P.E.N.D.E.N.T", "Low, and "Bartender" sound like quintessential late 2000's rap songs. What do you think?
I think it sounds slightly more 2000's, but it's definitely different from 2006/2007 rap songs.

Lollipop, Whatever You Like, and Kiss Me Thru The Phone are all produced by the same guy and have this bloopy synths. I guess it's exclusively a late 2000s thing and sounds distinct from rap songs in 2005-2007. You can definitely hear some electropop influences in all of these songs. Crank That and Low still has that core 2000s sound, I can see them coming out in 2005-2006.

I dunno why this is even a thread. This song is practically indistinguishable from most other southern hip hop songs of the late 00s. Plus a candy euphemism is like the most 2000s thing ever (see "Candy Shop" and "Laffy Taffy" for that matter).
I even used to think this and T-Pain's "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin)" from 2007 were the same songs. Not to mention this would have sounded dated by 2011.

Definitely late 2000s. As a matter of fact, it might sound more mid 2000s than it does early 2010s.

Its quintessentially a late 2000s anthem. It can "sound" like a early 2010s anthem because its a classic hit, but people will always think of the song as a 2000s anthem.

How is this even a question?
