It was a good video and I do agree with most of the points he brought up, but as has been said before, the chances of rock making a full comeback to the mainstream are incredibly slim. It has been culturally irrelevant for too long now. I mean, i'm 21 and it had already disappeared from the mainstream by the time I started high school in early 2012, the teenagers who are in high school now wouldn't have even grown up with it as kids. The ship has sailed i'm afraid.

Was watching this video from Neck Deep the other day and it reminded me how that "vibe" so was comforting and nostalgic if done in the right way. I miss when this kind of music was in Tv ads, Movies etc etc, I do feel the pop punk now that is underground still is missing an OMMMPHHH for some reason. Like the production needs something extra to bring it in 2020.

If rock needs to rely on reviving previous sounds and working with rap artists for it to have any chance of returning to the mainstream, the genre is as good as dead.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I’ve noticed a pattern in music that every 4-6 years, pop is mainstream, then hip hop, then rock.
Grunge Era: 1992-1997
Bubblegum Pop Era: 1998-2003
Crunk Era: 2003-2008
Alternative Rock/Emo Era: 2004-2008
Electropop Era: 2009-2014
Mumble Rap Era: 2015-2020/21?
This would mean rock is on its way to possibly becoming mainstream again by the end of 2021. I’m predicting it will be a new subgenre of Rock, that will have elements of bedroom pop and emo rock, and will become more mainstream due to the rise of the eboy/egirl trend from TikTok.

We shall see if this happens maybe maybe not ! Some tunes I am feeling right now in that realm
The sound will have to change to be more modern tho

Rock was still on the charts between 1998-2003 though as that was when nu-metal and pop-punk were at their peaks. It has basically been dead as a genre since 2011, its not going to come back.

I would agree with you Rock died as a genre in 2011, as that was the last year Good Charlotte was on the charts, and I’ve heard about nu-metal and pop punk in the late 90s and early 2000s, though I didn’t put it on there since bubblegum pop was the biggest genre during the Y2K era. Either way, it’s still possible that the genre could be revived for next year, I’m hoping it is, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t.
