When did you first hear about him? What did you think of him at the time? You can have any opinion you want. I just thought that the band was a part of music scene of latter half of the 90s and worth discussing.

I thought he was ok, had to been around 1997 when I heard of him. went with the whole goth 90s vibe that was going on at the time

I wasn't around, but his public image was considered controversial when he first came onto the scene and many parents reportedly didn't want their kids to listen to the band's music. To be honest, I only started to check out his output about a year ago, after I heard a contestant perform "The Beautiful People" on The Voice Australia. Now it would have to be one of my favourite songs from 1996.

didn 't seem like Manson's hype lasted that long
late 96, 97 98 99 2000 and then after that you really didn't hear about him as much

I didn't find out about him until the new millennium, but it was around middle school when I got Mechanical Animals and the Golden Age of Grotesque, and I really got into him. Although fun fact: Marilyn Manson is actually the name of the band ("Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids"). His name is Brian Warner and he is much weirder than you know.

Its good that he's still putting out stuff and still going.

You can make that arguement starting in 1998 with Mechanical Animals or GAOG in 2003-2004. But some of it the new stuff is decent, but no where near as good as his older material. I'm not a fan of his current and more recent releases either.

I’ll always have a soft spot for Mechanical Animals because it was my first MM album, but over the years I must admit it’s become apparent that there’s a noticeable drop in songwriting quality.

A lot of people back then thought he sold out, since the first 2 or 3 albums represented a different side of manson and MA had a too much of a pop appeal.

Yeah, I mean, I was like 13 at the time so that all kinda flew over my head.
