I know a lot of people on these forums dislike music from 2009, but I think it's better than people give credit for. I used to dislike music from 2009 but now it's growing on me and I actually like a lot of music from that year. I think it was definitely better than 2008. These are just some songs from 2009 that I like.

It wasn’t a great year for music but it was pretty good. Rock was still popular (and good), pop was at its best since the 80s and even County was tolerable. 09 was a pretty bad year for hip-hop though.

I've only started to appreciate it recently. 2009 was when I began to lose interest in chart music due to rock's decline in the mainstream and the rock songs that were popular mostly not being any good. Also, electropop was never to my liking either. I still don't think it was a particularly good year for music, but as time goes on, 2009 is starting to grow on me more and more, probably due to the nostalgic factor. There are songs from that year that I do enjoy.

I always thought 2009 as a particularly mediocre year for music. Did it back then, and exploring more of the year since has only confirmed that sentiment.
Pop music was nothing special that year really. It was all full of dull hooks, shoddy synth jobs and random electronic bleeps and bloops. On the pop front, 2010 unquestionably blew it out of the water with major margin, replacing 2009's blandness with enticing, sugary melodies and cathartic, massive feeling EDM leads. Hip hop music was particularly bad, again in total opposite to 2010 which saw the releases of many great albums (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantast, Flockaveli, Man on the Moon II, ...). And rock and R&B were in completely forgettable ruts at best.
Now that I think of it, 2009 to 2010 might be the biggest upswing in quality of the 21st century so far.

2009 was one of my favorite years for music and the most nostalgic year of my childhood

I agree with this. I usually see 2009 get overlooked by the following years like 2010 or 2011. To me more than anything, 2009 just seems underrated to me and it wasn’t a very good year for personal life. I do appreciate the music it had to offer though and it does feel nostalgic to me now along with the rest of the years from the late 2000s and the early 2010s.

I've always looked at 2009 music mostly as an epilogue to the '00s music. 2009 was also the year that set the foundations for what 2010s music would become.
