Honestly, I feel like 2010 feels a bit different from today, but I don't know if that was cause I was still in my childhood back then (I was 8) I remember when back in 2010 digital cameras were still quite common and blackberry phones were still popular. Even back in 2011 I remember making a birthday cake for my mom with my older sister and we took a picture of ourselves with a digital camera. I can actually remember walking out of Walmart and seeing someone with a slide phone texting. Apps like Instagram and Snapchat didn't exist and most teenagers were using Facebook at the time. The music back then also sounds different. I think most would definitely sound out of place if they were released today. One thing I noticed was that side bangs and long hair on guys were still quite common back then. I hardly see that nowadays, at least where I'm at. Does anyone else feel the same way?

The only years this decade which I see as somewhat dated are 2010 & 2011, although even then it's quite a bit less than 2008 or so. Back at my school in 2011 most people didn't have smartphones yet, a lot of people had flip-phones or blackberries. Snapchat and Instagram were Bascially non-existent around that time, I first heard of those in 2012 but didn't start using them until 2013. Also this was around the last time most people I knew had those old classic iPods or iPod Nanos, then all of a sudden everyone got like iPhones and stuff. So yeah I do consider those years somewhat dated but not entirely different. I also really miss the music of that time, 2010 & 2011 had some of the best music this decade, and strangely I find those years had this vibe that felt more futuristic than 2017!

I agree with both of you. In many aspects, 2010 is quite dated now. It was the last year rock was still a popular genre in the mainstream ( ) and arguably, it was also the last full year which still had a residual "2000s" vibe. 2010 is the only year of this decade I actually like, to be honest.

Ok so I was literally just going through a whole lot of my family photoes taken between 2007-2012, and there was a picture of me, my sister and our friends in February 2010. In the picture my sisters friend was on her iPod Nano, my friend was using a flip phone and I was listening on an MP3 player, that alone makes 2010 quite dated, LOL .

My Mum and I still had dial-up until October of that year, so that alone makes the year feel pretty outdated now!

No offense, but considering that you were only two years old in 2010, it would seem really dated.

My family had dial up until around 2007 I think, but I know my friend was still using dial up in 2011! However, most people I know had broadband well before then.

2010 is definitely dated, especially for its fashion, in particular. I forgot just how common the Bieber swoop was back then, not to mention things like the hi-top fade revival and pompadour had not yet arrived. It was also still normal to wear a logo t-shirt as opposed to primarily thrift store attire.
Then, of course, you have to consider things like most websites still being desktop-oriented, gay marriage not being legalized in most of the First World, computer interfaces still being mostly beveled and metallic rather than soft and rounded, and will.i.am being more of an influence on popular productions than the Chainsmokers and DJ Mustard.

I agree. In retrospect, 2010 still had quite a lot in common with the 2000s. Although a lot of people suggest otherwise, I don't think it was an outright 2010s cultural year, despite the fact that many elements of 2010s culture had become established by that point and 2000s culture was on it's last legs. It definitely leaned more towards the 2010s, however it was more of a transitional period between the two decades in terms of technology and pop culture, in my opinion.

In my view 2010 and early 2011 already feels dated in 2014.

Yeah it crazy how 2010 is close to a decade ago. I remember entering high school that year. I remember getting my very frist smartphone in November 2009 (T-mobile G1) used it all throughout 2010. 2010 had a lot of 10s elememnts like 4G smartphones, social media being big, tablets becoming a mass market item, Longer videos being more common on Youtube, but it still had 2000s elements like Blackberries still being popular, owning a dumb phone was still common, No Instagram most of the year, No Snapchat, Millenal culture was still in full effect (back when millenals were refered to as Gen Y) and the great recssion (though recovering) still had a big impact on a lot of people's lives in the states.
