So mc98 makes these cool threads about songs belonging to which era fits the song better, and I decided to hop onto the trend as it is a lot of fun to talk about!
Lovefool by the Cardigans, released in Late 1996 is about a song of a girl who is still in love with a guy who clearly doesn't love her back maybe because they broke up. It sounds very cheesy and a little annoying, but at the same time, its a catchy disco-pop song with lots of Teen pop elements and doesn't sound like anything from 1995. What do you guys think?

I would say Lovefool is late 90s since disco nostalgia started to take off in that era. Plus, it is too cheery and bubblegum for the mid 90s.

It fits in more with the more synthesized alternative pop songs of the late '90s. Can't really imagine it coming out in 1994 or 1995.

Definitely the Late '90s. It could have been released as late as 1999 and it wouldn't have sounded out of place.

Sounds like it could fit anywhere pure late 90s late 1996 to mid 1998 time frame.
It best represents the late 1997 to early 1998 vibe. Its not Y2K enough to be from 1998-1999 imo.

It is too cheery and bubblegum for the mid 90s. Ah, because songs like "Coton-Eyed Joe", "Macarena", "Scatman", "Captain Jack" and "Coco Jambo" aren't cheery and bubblegum? Definitely fits its time (1996) and could have easily come out in 1997 and 1998, so I guess late 90s leaning.

I mostly see the mid 90s as more serious and down-to-earth when it comes to music.

Lovefool is very disco-influenced though, they don't sound disco-influenced, though they sound bubbly which I agree on, though the majority of Mid 90s music wasn't very happy.
