Is it good or bad? For individuals? On the societal level?

I think it's bad for the most part. I know prodanny288 told me that plastic surgery is extremely common in South Korea, and a lot of people in South Korea like to get surgery for their eyes to give themselves a double eyelid. And idk why, but it just comes off as anti-Asian to me. A lot of people just want more euro-centric features which is why they get plastic surgery and it's lowkey toxic and just feeds into typical Eurocentric beauty standards. At the end of the day, it's your body and your choice. But that doesn't mean there isn't anything wrong with it.

It's fine. Anybody should be able to do whatever they want with their own body.

This isn't something I'm surprised people do a lot since it's been a popular trend for a while. I've seen people get expensive surgeries to look like a human barbie doll!

I mean if that's want to do with your body go ahead. It's your own body that God gave you, so you're free to do whatever you want with it.

My personal opinion is conflicted. I think on a personal level, plastic surgery should be okay for an individual who can handle it. But on a societal level, I think it can be harmful in an establishment of unattainable and/or racially associated features. So then that begs the question of whether said stable individual contributes to the whole. When I’d say it becomes particularly damaging is anytime plastic surgery becomes a trend, as that indicates a fair amount of impressionable people likely not getting it out of their own true desires.

If it is done to correct a deformity or because your looks/breasts are causing you physical or mental distress, I have no objection. But if it is to look younger or just to look beautiful then no as that is just shallow and vain.

I think the proper term used for this thread should have been "cosmetic surgery", not the entire field of plastic surgery which also includes stuff like reconstructive surgery.
As for my opinion, it depends on the purpose. Some cosmetic surgery is actually beneficial to the mental health of the person, like with trans people not feeling in the right body. But obviously when it comes to vanity-type surgeries like bigger boobs and narrower noses, there should definitely be a broader forum of education about the possible negative outcomes and self-acceptance than there currently is.

Two Words. Be Yourself. People should love their body, and if they don't, they can start working out which is very simple to do. Plastic surgery is so fake and bland.

If someone literally has a deformed face or health issues and needs/wants the surgery, then I think its totally fine. But otherwise I don't think people should be getting cosmetic surgery since it will only do more harm than good.

Personally I refer to procedures intended to correct deformities as “reconstructive surgery”.
