Here's how I divide the 2010s: Winter 2009 to Spring 2013: The early 2010s Summer 2013 to Summer 2016: The mid 2010s Autumn 2016 to 2019: The late 2010s fixed

Maybe I'm just looking at the smaller picture 2020 is the year of coronavirus, stay-at-home orders & most importantly the 2020 election. We've entered the political 2020s. Now let's see what music, TV & fashion bring to the table.

2019 and 2020 are the same culturally. Theres not a big difference besides the pandemic canceling everything but fashion and music sound the same as 2017-2019

I'm still betting on a cultural shift in 2021. 2020 is the cultural shift! Look around you! The pandemic permanently changed the entire world. We have tons more people working from home, districts teaching entirely online & mask requirements in many parts of the world. Many folks are going creative with decorating masks & finding ways to have fun at home. Black Lives Matter & George Floyd protests are changing racial dynamics in America. Many songs that speak against racial injustice have become incredibly popular. The 2020s arrived on time!

Still, I don't think we'll get the real deal until 2021.

Rappers have discussed racism in their songs since the 80s. The only difference is it's popular more than ever before but the issue of police brutality hasn't changed. There's tons of anti racist songs from the 80s to 2000s that talk about the same thing. This kind of stuff has been around for a long time but it just recently caught on because of coronavirus and the upcoming election.

I think 2021 will be the full cultural shift. Right now, music is still stuck in the 2010s. I think that will change really soon, though it might not happen until late 2021.

The late 2010s started in November 2016 but it's full effect wasn't completed until around fall 2017.

I don't know what to tell you. Is a worldwide pandemic not a cultural shift to you? From a political perspective, 2020 is changeful enough. But music hasn't shifted since 2017ish. Plus, if the US gets a new president, it'll be the first time a black woman takes the VP position. So I'll go with 2021 and just see where the ball goes from there.
