A spin off on @sharksfan99 thread of the same vibe, this is a feature called back to school week where I chronicle the energy, sights and sounds going into a new school year. Grab a snack and sit back and relax because it's time for Fall 2001.
Back to school week : August 30th 2001 - September 7th 2001 Grade : 8 Location : Suburban New Jersey
- Newsworthy blips and blurbs -
- Everyone and their dog is talking about Max Payne, it is the MOST talked about video game this week - MTV & MTV 2 are playing all of the VMA nominee music videos right now, Gorillaz Sum 41, Christina (Lady Marmalade) - Everyone has reached puberty for some reason - Commercials for the NEW tv show called Yugi-Oh ! are playing on Kids WB! nonstop - Kids WB had rebranded itself to Toonami, yes there is Kids WB! Toonami and Cartoon Network Toonami on at the same time. - Speaking Of CN, they will not stop playing repeats, PLEASE STOP I can't take it anymore ! - I go to Suncoast and buy a Vhs of Dragon Ball Z ( an episode that would not air on CN for 2 months) I also buy Lord Slug - I play Playstation 2 at FuncoLand for the first time, it is DarkCloud - Smackdown ! has their new FIST stage and it looks cool - Nickelodeon is so bad right now, repeats and stupid commercials - I buy a new SILVER TV from Phillips with SDTV tech ! - I get HBO for free and Comcast does not know ! - New York Raven becomes popular as well as New York Donut party Line ( Party line has a small revival) - Everyone is talking about Britney & the Snake at the VMAs, even the TEACHER ! it was huge - Everyone is talking about how Jamie Foxx was Drunk at VMAS - Aliyah recently died and is all over the radio with tributes - people are obsessed with racing cars due to Fast Furious over the summer - Nintendo Gamecube has no hype and no one cares - People are quoting American Pie 2 and the word MILF - everyone is glad to be back at school after a boring slow summer - DVD players start being sold heavily at Best Buy - Windows XP had just come out and it looks VIVID - GameBoy Advance is super popular - Tramp stamps get popular - Fox kids is dying slowly

I started 6th grade that year. I was dreading it. I wasn’t able to watch Nick CN or MTV because this was a time both my parents didn’t have cable at their houses and I mostly just watched whatever looked interesting on those 6 channels. No YouTube. No Smartphones. No iPads. No digital sub channels. No streaming Shows of any kind. Dark times. I remember when the Lawrence Welk or Guy Lombardo show would come on PBS, I would mute the sound and play top 40 music so it looked like the people were dancing and singing to rap/pop/rock songs and I would be slightly amused by it. That’s how bored I was back then! it would look something like this One thing I specifically remember that year people were news reports about students dress codes. Does anybody remember those “Boys lie” or “Boys Cheat” shirts girls wore back then? Anyway here’s some articles from the time about dress codes. linklinklinkLinklinklink

Low rise jeans started popping around this time and it was huge controversy because you could see your butt hole. Any tramp stamps were a NO NO

Omg the dress code thing was a huge deal then. My district made some really specific bans that stayed in the official dress code even when they were not so fashionable lmao.
