This is only the second time I've made an "atmosphere" thread before, so i'm sorry if this isn't particularly great. These are all pictures that I took with my digital camera between November 2008 to January 2009. I was 9 turning 10 at the time. Those newspaper clippings are actually out of a scrapbook which is full of newspaper clippings. At the time, I wanted to take photos and cut out newspaper clippings so that I could one day look back on the world of 2008 and be reminded of what it was like, which is why I took photos of my Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo Wii etc. I'm really glad I did in retrospect!

Honestly I prefer this era:
I love crt TVs were still big and the fact that dvds and rental stores were still massive Better variety of music in general Liked the small nature of YouTube Hipsters were less pretentious Stores weren’t over saturated with 80s nostagia Better independent music Rock music had a bigger presence Cringey parts of core and mids 2000s were dying, ending or gone People starting to seem more down to earth and open than a big chunk of the 2000s and 2010s Cellphones and social media was more simple, not constantly on your phone Retro games weren’t ruined by the overinflation in the online collectors market or hipster fashion accessories. People weren’t as politically correct as later and not as conservative as previous years.

Stores weren’t over saturated with 80s nostagia God do I miss how unabashedly forward looking and modern the 2000s and early 2010s were, rather than full-on retro obsessed most things are since the mid-2010s

God do I miss how unabashedly forward looking and modern the 2000s and early 2010s were, rather than full-on retro obsessed most things are since the mid-2010s[/quote] Yup very true. We are living in a era where mainstream pop culture are afraid of going forward! I feel like nowadays, the mainstream media are manipulated the younger generation(Gen Z and younger) in thinking that our era absolutely sucks, and that “their” generation is the best in human history. When in fact that’s not always the case. No era is 100% perfect. They are pros and cons to each era in human history. Especially the 1980s, they are a lot of cons about the 1980s, like the ongoing Cold War, 2 recessions, the Challenger Explosion, the AIDS Crisis, parents are now afraid of someone kidnapping their kids, the Crack Epidemic. I can go on and on about the negatives of that time period. But if I or anyone say anything bad about their era(1980s or in general), I(or anyone)would be drag all over social media for “disrespecting the 1980s”.
I don’t have a problem with people reminiscing about the specific time of their life. But if it’s to point where you are a Debbie Downer and you are saying EVERYTHING sucks nowadays, I wanna stay in the past forever, you need psychological help. People are scared to go foreword. Sorry for the long rant, but it feels great to express yourself.

As for this topic, it was definitely a progressive time in not just America, but the world in general. I was in 4th grade during this time. Even as a kid I knew there was going to be a change. A great time period to look back on.

I’ve been thinking about this time period lately and it’s making me more nostalgic. Even though the recession was at its worst, we at least had optimism when Obama got elected. It was a really happy time for black people. It’s insane how 2020 is the complete opposite now. There was way more political change between 2008 to now than 1996 to 2008.
