Compared to 1980, 1981 is definitely a major improvement as it at least has a plentora of fantastic tracks to offer. Still not a great time for mainstream music, especially with the assault of forgettable soft rock, pop soul and AOR songs. But very much caught in the transition of the much more exciting new wave and synthpop's invasion at least.

6. Foreigner - "Urgent" 7. Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - "Souvenir" 8. Phil Collins - "In the Air Tonight" 9. Grace Jones - "I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango)" 10. Rick James - "Super Freak"
11. Soft Cell - "Tainted Love" 12. Kim Wilde - "Kids in America" 13. Blondie - "Rapture" 14. Tom Tom Club - "Genius of Love" 15. The Pointer Sisters - "Slow Hand"
