Radio NZ posted an article a few days ago stating that New Zealand's television archive is under serious threat. Here are the main points from the article:
* The government promised 20,000 titles digitised and online by 2017.
* There was an agreement with the government for 7000 titles to be digitised and 5500 to be online by 2017.
* 2070 titles have been digitalised, but just 24 of these are online.
* 200,000 Betacam tapes have to be digitised by 2025 at the latest or be lost forever.
It's pretty bad that this situation has developed. Hopefully the Betacam tapes will be digitalised before it is too late.
