All the core and mid 2000s aspects in 2008 Sept 29, 2020 18:23:40 GMT 10

While 2008 was a unique and late 00s year, what core aspects and mid 2000s holdovers still present at that time do you still remember? I feel like some of these can be overlooked or forgotten but they still make up some part of the atmosphere of that year.

- 70 to 80 percent of fashion and hairstyles still being mostly identical to mid-late 04 to 06/07.
- Arabic scarfs still being trendy
- Enviromentalist and healthy eating trends still carrying on from earlier
- Flip phones being the preferred choice
- Occasional use of analog and disposable cameras - still a decent market for analog film
- DVDs stronger than Blu-rays, HD DVD and streaming is years away
- Could get away with using an older model Ipod
- Odd person with traces of fashion from 2002-2003
- Youtube barely feels different from 2006-2007
- Skepticism of the Internet, smart phones and too much technology and increasing globalization.
- The Internet mostly being the same with the exception of growing popularity of Facebook and Twitter.
- Not just scene, emo but indie, punk and metal scene still feel connected to mid 2000s and myspace culture.

I largely agree, but I have to push back on the Arabic scarves and green/clean living thing being a holdover of the mid-00’s. As I recall, that was pretty new to 2008.

Yeah all I remember is seeing them on a number of people in 2006ish. I’m not entirely sure when the turning point of popularity or peak of them are. Maybe others can chime in as well.

Do you remember anything else in particular, in terms of core or mid holdovers and aspects.

2007-2008 could be the final year of finally letting go of dial up and bulky yellowing computer monitors bought in 2002-2004.

Oh I think this or 2009 was the last year of floppy disk being officially made. I recall opening a box of imitation disks a few years ago where it had a copywrite date 2008 on them.

2008 was also the final year you could get away with bulky CRT-TVs since most channels finally switched to HD-only transmission starting in 2009.

I think there was semi CRT/HD type hybrid but I can’t recall exactly what it was or how long it lasted.

there were still channels not in HD in 2008, MTV and Vh1 didn't make the switch until 2009/2010 I wanna say 2010 is when they did it.
Teen Nick was in SD until mid 2010s lmao E! network went HD in 2010 as well. You could def get away with having a CRT set until 2012

Yeah I remembered it that way, I think there were newer models with flat screen or HD features from around then as well. Crts are still useful for playing old snes and sega games, as they look better since they were designed for them. Also its cool to watch old home movies on them.
