Anyone remember this era of the Bam Margera pulling stunts and starring in CKY videos that sort of went along with Jackass and skateboarding in the early 2000s? They were quite popular and mainstream back then inspiring a lot of people to do similar crazy and ridiculous things.
Here's CKY 3 for those that remember:

My cousin was a huge fan of Bam Margera as a kid. I'm only two years younger than him and because the popularity of skateboarding carried over into the mid 2000s, I kind of took an interest in it too. This is actually a fad from the early-mid 2000s that is rarely talked about. Skateboarding was huge back then. The Tony Hawk games on the PS2 were always popular, but so were Bam Margera's stunts. Kids used to try and replicate his tricks.

By 2004-2005 most of us had moved on. Interesting that it carried into the mid 2000s, I do know that the Bam show carried on longer. I remember the tony hawk games sparking more interest in skateboarding in 2000/2001.

I was a really big fan of the band in the late 2000s when this came out:
(Forgive the stupid intro...that must've been added later because I don't remember it.)

The more I think about it, these guys and the jackass crew did inspire a lot of people to attempt to do some really messed up and dumb stuff. I'm sure there are horror stories of people attempting to do ridiculous jumps and get hurt for life, die or get critically injured. Luckily none of my friends went for the extreme things, we were a bit older anyways.
1993-99 it just another extreme sport like rollerblading, and ditched its very early 90s/80s look, and was gaining popularity and semi mainstream but not a huge thing like later. 2000-2001 is when a lot of people were first getting into it through tony hawk games, early jackass and x-games and so on.
I think during the recent period of skateboarding, 01/02-2004 was probably when it was most popular, but some of that popularity was carried into mid 2000s and late 00s/early 10s, I'm not sure about later but it doesn't seem to have the same presence in the mainstream.
This trailer movie from 2003 called Grind best represents the vibe on some level even though it is kinda hollywood:
