Really, 2018? I’ve always been in the “core culture ended on election night” camp. the classic 2010s feeling ended Nov 2016 yeah but the stuff like Hipster and Dark movies kept on going for a bit, took a min to shake off the funk

Do you guys think late 2018-current will be viewed as some sort of mini-era in the near future?

I would say August 2017 was the last month we were fully in the core 2010s. Why? Is it because of Charlottesville?

Do you guys think late 2018-current will be viewed as some sort of mini-era in the near future? While there isn’t much in the moment to sub divide too much. I think late 2018 to the very start of 2020 ( pre COVID and post pure late 2010s) could be be considered one era in a vague way then again if COVID isn’t enough of direct pop cultural related benchmark then it would cut off anytime there is major and noticeable and drastic purely pop culture related shift. Could be anywhere between 2021 to 2023 I would think at very most, but who really knows.

I think now it’s hard to tell because so many things can happen. Also we can’t go out and much and a lot of things kinda are frozen or identical to last year.

And at least in the U.S., the reigning president does have a much more profound effect on the state of culture than I think most people here acknowledge.

2017-18 school year for me. Just because it was the last year where Musically was still Musically, Lil peep and Xxxtencion dying the tail end of that year was when emo-rap became mainstream, Gaming many say it was peak 8th gen with the switch being realeased along side the ps4 pro and xbox one x already being out a full year. From a personal perspective, it was my last year in college so it defiantly felt like an end of an era to me.

The cultural mid 2010s ended in November 2016 and the core 2010s ended in later 2018. It's sorta how the cultural mid 90s ended in late 96/early 97 and the core 90s ended around late 1998.
The core 2010s just means when the 2010s culture was at its strongest with no hints of 2000s or potential 2020s culture.

DEFINITELY 2018 This starter pack is a perfect reason why. Many 2010s staples like Game of Thrones, My Little Pony, Gumball, and How to Train Your Dragon ended in 2019.

The 2016 election ended the cultural mid-2010’s, not the core 2010’s. They are different things. I don’t know why people insist that 2017 wasn’t a core 2010’s year when it was extremely 2010’s. Even the first half of 2018 is core 2010’s.
